Subject: | Master cylinders |
Using a couple of small master cylinders and want to add a remote reservoir.
The cylinders are up against the firewall and I have to disassemble the
front end to get to them to bleed the brakes. Would be much easier to bleed
them at the wheel cylinder like a car.
Problem is to attach the 1/8 inch pipe fitting in place of the bleed valve.
Actual size of the bleed value is about 1/8" by either a No 9 metric pitch
or a 27" pipe pitch. Have spent a lot of time trying to find a reducing
fitting with no luck. I don't have the equipment or expertise to machine
one.
Anyone have any suggestions? The last resort would be to cut off the tip of
the bleed value and attach a plastic tube to the value..
Bob, Wichita

Bob,
1/8 inch pipe thread is indeed 27 threads/inch. What is the thread you
are trying to adapt to?

Since all you want is a reservoir=2C you can take any barb connection that
will fit=2C run it uphill to your reservoir. (I think it was Piper or Beech
used to use what looked like old Brasso cans.) Punch small copper tubing
into the bottom of the can=2C solder it in=2C and run your filler tubes dow
n to the barb fitting you installed. If you have a drill press=2C you might
try putting an almost right size fitting in the drill press=2C and hold a
file against it to bring it down to size
