I think that you are saying that every upgrade with flex hinges ailerons has been converted to piano hinged ailerons. Is that correct? Yes and I think all upgrades should have been done but that is just my opinion. If so, are you saying that the aileron stick forces are significantly lighter than with with the flex hinges? Not significantly lighter but there is a difference due to less resistance. Also, are you adding the angle on the bottom of the aileron side of the hinge as was shown in a post on this subject some time ago? Yes, Zenith supplies the parts and it is a simple upgrade that doesn't require you to reopen the ailerons. Finally, have you moved the counterbalance ribs inboard a bit to avoid the interference between the weights and the wing internals (that you mentioned somewhere), or are you bending the square tube, or what? Yes the counter balance weights are moved inboard 100mm and that takes care of the problem. If you use the 90 degree method it might fit also but I like the ribs angled and that's how I do them. What is the approx cutout for proper aileron deflection? The furnished part is 50mm and the directions say to enlarge wide enough to keep the weights from hitting. Without puting on the wings and hooking up the aileron controls it is hard to make this cutout. Does anyone who has completed this step have an approx of cutout width and depth? It is easy to do that way and you can cut it just right. The shock cord holds the gear very tightly into the V groove in the Nylon block. I can see that once the engine weight is added it will take some of the pull out of the cord. It seams to me that it might be OK on the ground but in the air it will be very hard to move the rudder. Am I missing something here? However, it proved to be of no concern. It works fine on the ground and in the air. I think my experience is pre tty much like most others. The resistance you feel is because you are on the ground and the rudder and nose gear are connected. All is okay with movement. BTW -- don't land with a cocked nose gear with this setup.
