So now I have the habit of first placing the tail end of drill bits in a fe w holes (for instance, when riveting the wing skin, 5 to 10 drill bits on eac h rib), and then install the clecoes. See attached picture of one fuel tank: in the centre of the picture, you ca n see two drill bits sticking out. On the top of the tank, left hand side of the picture, another drill bit (this one has the cutting end wrapped in masking tap). This ensured a precise, tight fit of all components. I suggest that, if you are afraid parts may shift during riveting, you use the same principle - and, in addition, put the bolts in place. This is my 2 cents (Canadian) worth - but this seems a good question for th e ZAC boys to answer. How is beyond me, considering that no faults showed up on the Matronics troubleshooter. For those that are going to Oshkosh, I'll see y'all there. Actually, I had so much trouble with the drilling I never got to the reaming. It was nearly impossible to get a drill of any kind (capable of such large drill bits) in place to drill with the fuselage sides and the seat parts in the way. This time, when installing the whole thing after upgrade, I am going to drill, ream, and inspect the mounting holes with the carry through out of the fuselage. I don't know how much problem I will have installing it after the finished holes are done, but I thing the first attempt resulted in something that was not airworthy. Indeed, I replaced the caps in the carry through and all 4 uprights to try to make things right. If you are still considering this problem in a couple of weeks then let me know. I should be finished by then. Paul Working in final stages of installing the carry through - wings completed.
