Now that it has its own engine stand, the neighbors will hear it soon. Sabrina wrote: > > (I also know how your family feels... I had half the garage up until then, once it was off the bench and on its own legs, the family car was moved out onto the street!) Now that's not gonna happen here, the night belongs to the Saturn Sky or what ever small car Anne is driving. Notice I do have a say about the size of her car. Hope to have the airplane in the air this year and in a hangar as the weather gets better here in Michigan. Pretty much just plumbing and electrical left to do, and a little more metal fabrication. -------- Ron Lendon, Detroit, MI WW Corvair with Roy's Garage 5th bearing Zodiac XL, ScrapBuilder ;-) http://www.mykitlog.com/rlendon Corvair Engine Prints: http://www.zenith.aero/profile/RonLendon Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=334931#334931 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 12:50:20 PM PST US From: BobbyPaulk@comcast.net Subject: Zenith601-List: Carbon Monoxide Guys, I have posted before about the dangers of CO ( carbon monoxide ). I recently found the bottom of my firewall outside the engine mount weldments were a flat open space ( about 5/8" wide x 1/16" deep ) on each side. I had put a 60 watt light bulb under the cowl to keep the moisture out of the engine compartment. I could see light thru the cracks and strong evidence that this was at least a part of my CO problem. My carb was running very rich and smoked up the firewall and I could see smoke trails entering these holes. I had missed sealing them prior to my first flight. Please be sure to seal ALL cracks and penetrations at and around the firewall. Has anyone found a way to stop the Jabiru muffler / exhaust pipe connections ( 6 ) from leaking?? These connections were designed to flex so the pipes would not crack but there is too much clearance between the pipes and muffler connection. Back pressure from the muffler causes the exhaust to flow back out around the pipes. There must be a better way. When my carb was running rich the pipes had black streaks emanating from the muffler back up the pipes. The red High Temp silicone will not stay in the cracks or on the pipes & muffler sealant does not work either. Stopping the CO at the source would help reduce the likelihood of contamination in the cockpit. Any Ideas!!
