I could push the rudder petals and get a 200 deg error on the compass sitting still. A friend and AI suggested we get an inexpensive compass from Wally world and move it gently around the mounting area. If there is any interference it will swing the needle on the compass. This was the best location we could find. I also mounted my OA temp on the access panel at the fuel tank connectors. I just let it hang while inspecting during "conditionals" Bobby N131BP 128 hrs. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 02:02:03 PM PST US From: Mark Hubelbank Subject: Re: Zenith601-List: Location, location Bobby, Note that it is possible to de-magnitize the cables. I also had some issue with cables but I used a old tape head demagnitizer and went over all the cables. This reduced the effect to almost un-measurable. The demagnetizer I used was home made, they used to be a RadioShack item. These seem to be still on EBAY see http://www.ebay.com/itm/Realistic-Bulk-Tape-Eraser-Used-Great-condition-/260835932631 On 10/31/2011 4:25 PM, BobbyPaulk@comcast.net wrote: > List, > I located my remote compass behind the baggage compartment passenger > side after having a fit with magnetized rudder cables. > I could push the rudder petals and get a 200 deg error on the compass > sitting still.
