    I mounted mine on the side as the plans show. I used a 2 part sealer (B1/2) that =0Ais used to seal the wet wings on the aircraft I fly for the Army. I filled both =0Atanks up with fuel and let them sit in the sun for several hours. No leaks and =0Awill probably never leak. I don't trust fuel guages in small airplanes anyway. =0AThe best fuel guage is your head. Know what you start with, know your fuel burn =0A( fuel flow meters are very accurate ) and dont fly too long. =0A=0A=0AOh, the sealant I used is make a MESS but it works great.     It is important to have access to the senders. The gaskets and seals will wear out and leak. Just ask me how I found out. Albeit my plane is an older model and was finished in the fall of 1990. They work fine. I would be concerned about leaks mounting on the side of the tank. I have heard some owners worry about tank leaks from senders that are a problem even on top of the tank. There is no easy way to isolate and repair these since the skin is riveted over the tank. I am taking the chance, but I've heard some people installed inspection ports over the sender for possible repairs.     Steve - I'm in the process of mounting my senders on the top. My tanks are 2005 vintage and the tank top is real close to the LE skin, leaving clearance issues to the skin. What I ended up doing was making a spacer plate that mounted the sender inside the tank by a 1/4 inch, giving me enough clearance. My thinking is that having the sender at the top is going to have to minimize leaks just because it is not going to be immersed in the fuel all the time like the side mount sender is. As for future reparability, I counted the main spar rivets so I know exactly where the center of the sender is and made measurements using that rivet for reference, and logged it. So now I know exactly where to cut in the future to replace it (if I have to). I'll fab a cover at that time if needed. To me, a leak seems a lot more likely than the sender going out. Also if a leak did develop and I could not repair it quickly, I could lower the fuel level in the tank to stop the leak with the sender at the top, where it would just keep leaking with the side mount.
