    Subject: Fuel Gauge
Tom, I don't know if you are using the floats that came with the 601 kit or not but any float located at the inboard end will stop reading at about 7 gallons. I used the Dynon display with the floats that came with my kit ( I think they are Volkswagon type ). Putting in one gallon at a time the floats will stop registering any more output at about 7 gallons because of the dihedral. The float is hard up against the top of the tank. I calibrated mine at 7 gallons full . They will not register less until the fuel level gets below 7 but they are very accurate down to 2 gallons. We should be very interested in the last 3 or 4 gallons I always try to fly with the fuel in the top half of the tanks unless I am in the local area. I have a very accurate dipstick to measure from 3 to 12 gallons. I used a 3/8" round dowel and stuck it at an angle inboard towards the center of the plane until it fits snugly against the outside edge of the tank. If you fill the empty tank one gallon at a time the stick will start getting wet at about 3 gallons. You can then calibrate the stick at every one or two gallons and mark it so. The fuel will make an angled circle around the stick. I cut a small V groove and painted it with a fine brush. After marking the stick I varnished it and lightly sanded the part going in the tank so I could see the wetted area. Sand a depression for your thumb so when you change hands it will be at the right angle for the opposite tank. Works great. You can dip your tanks before and after a flight and check your fuel burn and the accuracy of your gauges below 7 gallons.. Accuracy is about 1/2 gallon as near as I can tell. Hope this helps.
