Dear Listers, You might have wondered at some pointd, "What's my Contribution used for?" Here are just a few examples of what your direct List support enables... Paul.... The only part that is confusing me though, is how could the mic possibly be picking up the sound from the headset? It squeals without even speaking. It makes more sense in my mind that it would be a mic gain issue more then anything. No? Thanks again Paul! John I installed my OAT probe on the inspection panel at the left side fuel tank outlet. I also installed my Transponder Ant. on the floor in front of the right side rudder pedal. i sometimes fly in controlled air space and use the Transponder a lot. Both of these items have worked fine for 5 yrs. I did have trouble with the remote compass. It was mounted on the floor behind the belly access door. My rudder cables were magnetized and we could not degauss them. The compass would turn 200 degrees or more sitting still and just moving the rudder. We bought an inexpensive auto compass and moved it around in the aft section until we found a magnetically quiet space. We mounted it on the rear of the baggage compartment on the passenger side to get it away from the flap motor. It is by far the most accurate compass I have flown behind. Hope this helps. Chad, It is all part of the same loop. MIke gain amplifies sound going into the radio and sidetone talks about the volume coming out when the transmitter is keyed. There is a similar volume control for the intercom volume in both directions. If the amplification is too high then you get squealing. It doesn't matter which side is too high. However, if the mike is too low you won't send your information while if the sidetone is too low you won't hear what you say. You need to find a balance between these two settings that satisfies your communication needs in both directions. It wouldn't matter if you speak or not. There is some sound in the system even when you are transmitting "Silence".' You can try turning down either the mike gain or sidetone or both. If it doesn't work you won't have lost anything except a little time. On your intercom the name of sidetone changes to volume (maybe). One side story. I had terrible sounds coming from my radio but only in flight. I figured out it was the flow of air from my cabin vent hitting the microphone and keying the intercom from the noise. I fixed it by pointing the vent eyeball in a different direction. Good luck, Paul On 11/12/2012 5:28 AM, SIDESLIP wrote: > > Paul.... Makes sense.... I'll try more sidetone and the mic gain. Also going to try swapping antennas. The handheld works perfect and is wired in the same way as the A200, which tells me this is an A200 issue. HELP!
    From: Bob Haring <zman601xl@AOL.COM>
Chad, Google IC-A210 Radio instruction manual.I believe it's page 20 where it sho ws how to access the menu, and that will guide you to the mic gain 1 & 2 adj ustments. The adjustment range is -10 to plus 10.I had to play around with i t to get it right. All the radio adjustments are done with the radio control knobs.I'm not familiar with the A200 radio.I'm assuming that it is an earl ier model.I didn't check, is there a manual for the A200 that you can acces s on the web?Anyways, good luck ,and keep us up to date on your progress. Grounding airplane from flyi ng... HELP! Which way do you turn the mic gain pot to lower it? Do we have to lower it much? Clockwise looking down at the top of the case, or counter clockwise?
