It=92s heavy, stays in the wind across the belly and leaves too much bounce in landings for a light 601. The original gear built into the wings is more difficult, but tracks better, needs little to no maintenance and their stress is better distributed on the plane. The original gear is lighter than what you=92re going to find in composite as well. The only advantage for the spring type gear is the work putting it on. Yes, it=92s easier, but a lesser product in the end in my opinion. Respectfully, Larry McFarland 601HDS with standard gear Piper PA28 with like gear. It=92s stronger, but not a long life aluminum. It would tend to fracture much easier in high stress even though initially, it=92s much stronger than the rest.
