Very unfortunate indeed. Subsequent to the B revision, the 601 and 650 have had a pretty good run. However, there is nothing in the report to indicate that the aircraft in question did, or did not, receive the B revision. Here is an update on the Marengo, IL accident that destroyed an AMD SLSA Zodiac XL. The preliminary NTSB report can be found at: http://app.ntsb.gov/pdfgenerator/ReportGeneratorFile.ashx?EventID 161210X01354&AKey=1&RType=Prelim&IType=FA It seems clear to me that this was not an example of structure failure. Rather it was a case of a Sport Pilot departing for a night flight and failing to maintain control of his airplane. As far as i know there is still no example of a Zodiac XL suffering structure failure after installing the upgrade. From: Paul Mulwitz I don't think this is an issue for two reasons; 1. All AMD manufactured planes were required to have the revision. They were grounded until it was performed. 2. This accident didn't fit the pattern of in-flight breakup. All the parts were in the same place. The fact that a Sport Pilot decided to fly at night is a strong indication that he lost control due to lack of training. The NTSB already said it seems it was a loss of control accident.
