At this point, it is highly unlikely that the NTSB knows the cause of
the crash. =46rom the wreckage, they may be able to eliminate some
possibilities. They can tell if the plane was intact at the time of
impact and possibly whether it was under control. The fact that a sport
pilot chose to fly at night tells us that he violated the FARs and
nothing more. He was a 62 year old sport pilot training to be a private
pilot and we have no idea how much night training he=99s had at
this point. The flight took place in VFR conditions over flat terrain in
a well lighted region. There a number of reasons someone can lose
control of an airplane including control system failure and medical
incapacitation, among others. Any attempt to attribute a cause to the
crash at this point would be pure speculation.

They were grounded until it was performed.

the parts were in the same place. The fact that a Sport Pilot decided
to fly at night is a strong indication that he lost control due to lack
of training. The NTSB already said it seems it was a loss of control
accident.
