    Subject: Zenith601 Jabiru Starter Trashed
Zodiac Forum Members, My Bosch starter on my Jabiru 3300, Zodiac 601 failed after mostly ground runs and very little flight time. The pinion gear moved on its shaft and began grinding away at the aluminum housing until the bendix would no longer activate. Obviously this condition had been occurring for some time as the steel gear milled out two notches in the nose housing. I need a new housing but wonder how to prevent the same defect from occurring again. I don't see any thing that would prevent the pinion from sliding out again. Has anyone on the forum had experience with this? Also I have always given a gentle up and down shake to the horizontal stabilizer as part of every preflight.
