    Subject: Bungee
          
      I landed on a rough field about a month ago and broke the bungee on the nose wheel.
      The bungee broke straight across and looked like it was cut but the welds
      and joints were smooth. The field had several sharp bumps and fire ant hills.
      After a number of sharp bumps I think I hit a fire ant hill while taxiing back
      to the hangar and the nose wheel  collapsed.The bungee was 4 years old. I have
      since replaced the bungee and have returned to the field to visit with no ill
      effects. I am thinking about replacing the bungee about every 3 years. Has
      any one had this happen to them?

      Yes it has happened to me. I just replace it every other Annual. I should mention
      I fly a lot, 120 + hours per year.
