We are building a CH 650. Drawing 6B14 shows the Spar angle of 83 Degrees. which is how we set ours up. Drawing 6W8 for the wing shows the Spar angle of 81 Degrees. It sounds like we should use the 83 Degrees angle. Input is appreciated. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=267566#267566

We are building a CH 650 and will be installing a O-200A Engine. What are others installing by brand and Size? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=267567#267567

I'll be glad to explain my tradeoffs and reasoning, but it would probably be better to do it in a private email. There are some pretty adamant supporters of the various choices, and someone might get offended. My reasons may not apply to others. Email me directly if you want my reasoning. ============================================ Do not archive. ============================================ Jim B Belcher BS, MS Physics, Math, Computer Science A&P/IA Retired aerospace technical manager Mathematics and alcohol do not mix. My 601XL plans show the center spar set at 81 degrees to the horizontal, which puts it 78 degrees to the cabin floor. The cabin floor slopes up 3 degrees from the horizontal. The lower flanges on the center spar are set at 78 degrees for the front flange and 102 degrees for the rear. These are the same angles used on the wing spars. The 650 uses the same wings set at a slightly greater angle of incidence, so the 83 degrees sounds about right. That would put the center spar at 80 degrees to the cabin floor. The wing spar should be the same as the 601XL. I am also building the 650 but I originally started building the 601 so I do have both sets of plans. The error I believe is in the notation on the 650 plans 6-W-8 that says "To install top rear skin: support skeleton, use spar template from 6-B-13 to hold the spar at 9 degrees............." The template that they are referring to is actually on 6-B-14 (no big deal) but it is 83 degrees and would not be suitable for this purpose, you will need to make a new template at 81 degrees. This is because the angle of the spar in relation to the wing rib has not changed from the 601 to the 650 so the 81 degrees here remains correct it is only the angle of the wing spar in relation to the fuselage that has changed, hence the increased incidence by 2 degrees and the lower attachment position for the rear spar. I will advise ZAC of the issue with the drawing 6-W-8. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=267685#267685
