From what I've read there is not much, if anything, bad to say about the engine. My problem has been locating one with low mileage. I've seen a few with nice car bodies attached to them, but I'd prefer to have just the engine. --> Zenith701801-List message posted by: <skyguynca@skyguynca.com> I have converted a few of the 1.0L for others after I did one for myself. They are good conversions but what I suggest is that you shop on ebay or at JDM sites for engines imported from the Japanese Domestic Market. You can usually find a 1.3L for about $400 to $1100 with less than 30,000 miles. The harness assy and computer you can get from a local junk yard or auto recycler pretty cheap. Subject: 2nd Flight
--> Zenith701801-List message posted by: Dan <dwilde@clearwire.net> I made my second flight in my 701 today. Yesterdays flight was once around the pattern and land. Today I actually spent the time to check out systems, do 360's and keep track of instrument readings. All the temperature readings and oil pressure were ok but the water temperature was on the high side of normal. The plane is nose heavy at this point (I have not added a trim tab yet) so I limited my air time to half an hour. Based on previous emails in the archives, I will bend the trailing edge of the elevator down to level to reduce of the nose heaviness. I also am ordering the trim kit tomorrow. Because the plane is nose heavy at this point, I could not tell if there is a trim issue with the flaperons. If there is a problem it must be very minor. The plane is very responsive to the controls and only a light touch is needed. I have not used flaps yet and probably won't for a while. The plane needs little room for landing and I have had to taxi a long way to clear the runway because of this. My landing approach consists of a slight nose down attitude with engine at idle which gives about 60 mph. On nearing the runway, I raise the nose and wait for it to settle which it does after a little float and that's it. The mains contact the runway and then the nose wheel touches and I am down. I have not looked at what the touchdown speed is but I estimate it to be about 35 mph. If anyone else remembers their first flight experiences, I would be interested in reading about them. --> Zenith701801-List message posted by: "kmccune" <kmccune@somtel.net> Someone posted on the Zenith list awhile ago about a Rotamax engine. I got this link from a Gyro site ( still looking for a 912 replacement) Anyway they show two running engines with redrives but no prop. And they quote prices. They did not comment on the turbo single, but it is still on the Aviation section in the rotamax.net site. http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1498028315 Kevin -------- Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. I really liked that idea.
