George,
I built my cowl using Jabiru supplied nose bowls. The rest is .016
aluminum.

Pete used my 701 for the prototype fitting of the Jab 3300, 701 FWF
package. Give me a call if you wish. Jim 480-766-0003

Subject: | 801 Battery/ballast box |
Jeff My 801 did not need any ballast. I too installed a O-360. I put the battery
with out a box under the right front seat. While I feel my plane is a little
nose heavy it is well within CG. Bill WilcoxN801BW350 hrsWorking on other
things and not flying :+( Can any builder's with completed 801's tell me if they
found a need to add
ballast to the tail, or locate the battery aft for balance purposes?
I built my Kitfox with a Continental IO-240B and ended up installing a
ballast box in the tail, via the battery access panel, which was a real
bear of a job.
Just getting ready to rivet my fuselage skins on my 801, and trying to
decide whether or not to build in a ballast box, or battery mount in the
tail.
I'll be using a Lycoming O-360 most likely.
Regards,
Jeff

Thanks. It's a lot easier to add facilities for ballast if there is likely
a need during the construction process than after so just want to make
sure.
Thanks Much,
Jeff

Subject: | Battery box modification |
do not archive
Whoever it was that sent me the off-list question about battery box drain:
I deleted the email and do not recall a name. Sorry.
No, that wasn't my box, but another fellow. However, here is what he did.....
Battery he used wouldn't fit in the ZAC box, so he purchased a marine-type box
of correct size.
This new box did not have a drain.
He used a valve stem for a tractor tire (removed the valve) inserted the stem from
inside the box.
There is a nut applied from outside, possibly some LocTite, too.
He clamped a hose over the stem, cut hose to appropriate length, etc.
I am aware that there are dozens of valve stem types available. Some are snap-in
from the back side, some have threads & washer/nut. A farm equipment or truck
parts outlet may be best place to look.

Zed/701/R912/90+%/etc
Things sure have gotten quieter without all those radical low-wing guys!

Yes quieter, and the content seems more related to how to build something,
rather than speculation about how something un-built itself. Which is a nice
change in my view.

Jeff

Buddy dropped by in the 701 he finished last year. He didn't mind the
t-handle throttle control, but it was really bindy and he said it
still creeps on him so he needs to tighten the bolt on that friction
block even more. I think it sucks.
What is your experience with the T-handles, and have any of you
switched to one of those cessna-type ones? And did you eliminate the
friction block altogether?
Hey I like this split list!

Tony, I had a cock eyed look at that arangement too, did a Piper type centre
throttle in the end.
Only problem is it doesnt work on the centre stick, you'll have to install 2
sticks, pics if you want.
