What has been everyone else's experience and what have you done to

John, are you sure about the 750 being available as
plans? In this day and age and given what happened
with the 701 knock offs, I can't imagine Zenith
offering plans for 750. Someone mentioned this just
after Sun and Fun but I don't see it happening.
Absolutely AWESOME if it is true but I just don't see
it.
Another 750 question. Has anyone heard if the
prototype will be at Oshkosh? The pictures that were
posted on here a few months ago looked very
interesting. Interesting enough to almost make me
willing to try building a kit as opposed to scratch
building my next project. But if the 750 is going to
be available as plans, WOW, I'm in.
Lets all hope.

You think so?
Here's a simple problem 6061 = 42,000 PSI tensile strength.
Strap less the material from the bolt = (approx) .063 x 1 x 42K
2646 lb.
Ok rivets, I can't remember offhand but I think it is less than 8 A5's.
A5(255 lb's shear) x 8 = 2040lb.s
150(lb.s) x 20G = 3000
200(lb.s) x 20G = 4000
Ok, the load is probably distributed across three mount point, so ...
It's not so bad. But it certainly doesn't meet my definition of "strong"
It's a minimal design.
cal.riggs wrote:
> Actually the 0.063 6061 T6 seat belt mounts have been field tested on the 701,
and they didn't fail. The material which the mount is attached will pull away
before the mount bracket pulls through the bolt hole. In the field test, the
701 hit a tree with a wing and nose planted in the ground. The pilot is alive
with no broken bones as a result of the airframe collapse at the seat belt mount.
However, the lap belt pulled through the material at the tunnel. ZAC made
a change to add a backing plate on the inside of the tunnel to strengthen the
attachment. So, there is tested confirmation that the mount brackets themselves
are fine at 0.063 6061.

Got them, thanks!
It appears that you have flat doors while I have bubble doors so I'll have
somewhat different geometry.
What little I saw of your plane looks very nice, BTW.

Do we know anything about the flying characteristics? I mean details? I assume
it will have similar performance but are there any numbers?
I also wonder about engines. The 701 is so great but that engine is so expensive...
And then there's 20 plus years of history vs. zero. I know it's a very similar
design but this still means something.
I've finished my rudder but may consider the 750 if it's "real"...

The larger size may open up the engine choices a lot. But it still needs a lot
of thrust to compete with the 701 capabilities. Who knows maybe I'll be able
to buy a 701 cheap in August after EAA [Wink]
I honestly think the 701 will continue as its STOL capabilities are hard to beat
and its proven, we will just have more choices.

Hi ,
I asked Chris several years ago about extending each wing by a foot for
high altitude operation. He replied "If you increase the wing span you'll
have to reinforce the spar, which is heavier and cancels some of the
increased span!
To retain full strength the web doubler 7-V-2, 6SP should be t=.040
(instead .032) and longer."
He included a sketch showing 7-V-2 longer both inboard and outboard by 80
mm in each direction for a total of 160mm longer.
I've not yet done the mod but am considering it. If you're considering
longer wings I'd suggest you discuss it with the good folks at the Zenith
factory as I'm sure they'll have more current and complete information.
Dave, 701 with A80-8 Continental- still slowly building!
