Pretty neat video Johan. And that definately was a
short take off in a 701. Which engine are you
running?

Subject: | 701 Horizontal Stab Question |
I was hoping someone could help me with a measurement. Due to some inattentive
coffee drinking I spilled some joe on my plans in the wrong spot. I was needing
to know the exact location of where the L angle on the bottom of the stab mounts
at. I know it is below the cutout for the cable to run through but I cant
decipher on my plans where exactly. Either the distance from the bottom of the
hole or from the bottom of the spar would be fine. Thanks for any help you can
give me and you can bet I know where I wont be sitting my coffee cup anymore.

Wade, I'm at work so I cannot get you the measurements
you need right now but I do have a Tech Tip for you
about coffee drinking around you plans.
One of the first things I did when my plans arrived
was go to the local office supply place and purchase a
couple of packages of slip on page protectors. I
think the largest size commonly available is the size
for the plans. Once in the slip on covers the sheets
are essentially laminated and you don't need to worry
about spilling coffee on your plans anymore. Also
makes for easy cleanup if you happen to overspray a
bit of primer on the plans or if you grab them with
dirty fingers.
After I'd placed the plans in the protective sleaves,
I placed them into a three ring binder so I can easily
take one sheet to the work table.
Hope this is a helpful tip. Although, it is kind of
closing the barn door after the horse has escaped in
this instance.

Yeah, good advice on the protective sleeves. I considered something like that ahead
of time but once I had my plans in front of me, building took over and common
sense went out the door. I will get them protected though now. Fortunately
only half of one page took a bad hit so I should be alright from here on out.

Wade,
It is forward/above of the top of the slot 15 mm to the center of the L
attaching rivet line. Also shows 120 mm from the rivet centerline of the bottom
of the fwd. spar. to the bottom edge of the L.

Subject: | Re: : Zenith CH-801 engines |
Ben,
No, I haven't received my engine yet. I'm praying for delivery this fall;
that's what Diane told me at SnF. Actually, I still have my electrical
system and instrumentation to do on the plane, so this fall wouldn't hurt
me. I'm planning on going to Racine this summer for factory training and to
help them assemble engines. I'm hoping to be able to assemble my own
engine. Cool, huh! I'll send you an email when my plans are firmed up, and
maybe we could get together.
Regarding mods for diesel, yes, I've made some. I have two tanks, but have
used the "four-tank" piping system, using the other two lines for injector
return. I've changed the line routing inside the cockpit and installed two
3-way valves, one for supply and one for return. I looked at the Andair
6-way, but the price got me. I made use of one of my contacts from my
former life (industrial instrumentation design) and got both valves for less
than half the Andair, and I know these valves will last forever! I've also
changed the hose from the Zenith-supplied SAE30R7 to SAE30R9. Lots more
money, but much better specs.

Bob,
The DeltaHawk engine uses NO valves. It's piston-ported for air intake and
exhaust. Fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber. Oiling is
by a pressure-fed oiling system with an external (no Lycoming problems!) oil
pump, pressure gallery, and dry sump. Really, best of both worlds.

Jim,
That sounds good. I hope that all works out well. We definitely need engine
and fuel alternates.

Subject: | Free HomebuiltHELP 912 Installation Tips DVD |
I find myself with an extra copy of HomebuiltHELP's "912 Installation Tips"
DVD. This is the OLDER DVD for the BED (not ring) mount (although most of it
would apply to the newer FWF kit ring mount from Zenith). The description is
here:
http://homebuilthelp.com/912.htm
Free to the first taker BUT I would prefer that you only ask for it if you
have an immediate and real need (i.e. don't be greedy). I'll mail it from
Utah.

Subject: | Zenith 912 instrument package for sale |
I bought a 701 kit which included the standard flight and engine instrument
package from Zenith for a Rotax 912. Since I'll be installing a glass panel
I'm offering the factory instruments for sale. The package was purchased
from Zenith in April of 2006 and has never been installed.
The kit includes:
Airspeed, ball, magnetic compass, altimeter, tachometer (with 912 RPM limits
color coded), oil temperature & pressure, coolant temperature, voltage
indicator & hour meter. Although (I believe) not part of the Zenith package
the photo also shows dual fuel level indicators, Ray Allen trim switch and
indicator, 25 amp toggle-style circuit breaker and a standard
left/right/both/crank key switch. Except for the trim switch and indicator I
can include any of these (fuel level, key switch, circuit breaker) if you
need them.
Zenith lists the package for $1050. I'm offering the whole kit for $600.
Buyer pays shipping of their choice from Utah.
