Hi Terry and everyone that responded, I am foo far along to pull a fuel tank and add a extra fitting to it. My original plan was to put a tee in one of the fuel lines, some where between one of the tanks and the gascolator. After reading everyone's remarks, I like the idea of drilling into the top of the gascolator and installing the return line there. No, I do not have any check valve installed in my fuel lines and presently don't see a need for it. Mike H Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=186336#186336

I hadn't thought of that, Dan, but that could be a concern. I'll have to run that past Clayton. Thanks for the thought. Off the top of my head, I think the risk would be minimal at least in a normal A/C attitude, because the tank is at atmospheric pressure because it is vented, the tank is pretty low in the system, and the <#60 orifice in the tee would greatly restrict liquid flow. I think I'm questioning the need for the return line because the boost pump would pretty quickly push any air or vapor through the carb, and then the motor would run again. Of course, if it stopped on takeoff, 200 ft above the ground, the restart might be too late to do any good. Clayton is supposed to visit (my 2 neighbor 601XL builders and) me on 6/14. I'll ask him then and post any insight I get. Terry Terry At 11:20 AM 6/4/2008 -0700, Dan wrote: >I'm curious if you're also installing a check valve. Hi Listers, I had an old web camera set up in my garage when I was building our first 701 and had quiet a few folks visit and look at the construction progress. I usually work a little every day as soon as I get through with my supervisor's list. She is a hard taskmaster. Anyway, my buddy and I bought an abandoned project and have started building another 701. We found one in Kingman, AZ and started work on it a couple of weeks ago. We also searched for and found a used 912ULS engine with just 382 hours. I think it belonged to a retired school teacher who just flew it to church and back on Sunday morning at 4900 RPM (big grin). Actually, I think we found a very well maintained engine. The logs are very detailed. And yes, there are problems with buying a used, partially finished kit. I tried to write about it and sent it to Jon Croke to include in his Newsletter. Hopefully it will be interesting reading. So, if you would like to pop in to cyber visit, just click on this link: http://24.119.93.222/img/main_fs.htm The link changes from time to time. I will try to keep it updated through http://www.ch701.com under the builder's links. If I'm in the garage working, there is no voice on the web cam, and I'm kinda ugly so be warned beforehand. :) Tommy Walker in Alabama N8701 60+ Hrs.
