He used 0.090" 6061-T6 to make his own outboard elevator hinge plate instead of using the 0.032" plate supplied by Zenith. Just checked my kit and my hinge plate is 0.063". I guess Zenith beefed up that part when the horizontal stabilizer was widened. http://www.liming.org/ch801/final.html (hinge plate is about 1/2 down the page) His hinge plate was extended to allow for two vertical rows of rivets. My Zenith part provides one row of rivets with 8 mm edge distance (predrilled). I'd like to know if any other CH801 builders have felt the need to substitute thicker material for this component. If so, what thickness did you use? Also, the plans do not call for any type of bushing inside the 3/16" hole for the hinge pin - Gary used used a nylon bushing. Can someone help me out understanding the potential "cons" of using a bushing at that location? From: "ricklach" Could any one take a look at their factory kit and clarify exactly what Zenith is supplying in the factory kits. I don't believe it was a nylon BUSHING around the hinge pin itself and between the pin and plate. Just my un-educated opinion here, but if I were to put a bushing here, it would probably of the bronze variety, not the nylon type. I re-read the page I referenced and it does seem a nylon washer was used and not a bushing. Thanks for pointing that out. - Ben do not archive -------- Ben Church CH801 Racine, WI Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=189175#189175 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message zenith701801-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Zenith701801-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/zenith701801-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/zenith701801-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
