Subject: | CH801 WIng Incidence |
I cannot find any mention about setting wing incidence when hanging the
wings in the CH801 docs. Are they just hung on the attach fittings with the
front and rear spar attach fitting simply centered?
I would assume that the fueslage would be leveled fore and aft, and then
the wings adjusted to level front to rear to match. However if this is the
intent, it seems there should be some reference locations on the wing
to use to verify it.
Thanks,
Jeff

Subject: | Strut fairing materials |
All,
I am interested in adding strut fairings to my CH701 before I finally
get around to painting it. Seems like it is a good way to gain a few
knots for free. I am interested in information related to the options
following:
1) Names of any company's marketing the parts to accomplish adding
fairings to the struts. I don't have a brake long enough to form the
material.
2) If I can't find them pre-made, anyone with details of what you did
relative to material thickness, radius of the LE bend, how far your bent
it, and how you fastened at the trailing edge?
3) Has anyone use those plastic strut fairings?
Thanks in Advance
Walt Cannon

On my Kitfox, I made templates and hotwired foam leading and trailing
edges from foam, and then epoxied them in place, and layed up two
layers of glass cloth over it using West Systems epoxy. A bit of work, but
it came out very well.
Here's a couple pics

Thats is what I did on my 801. The pad you have to drill to attach the f
ront and rear spar is kinda small and leaves very little room for adjust
ment. The real issue is edge distance and this is a HIGH stress area so
I centered mine and it works ok. Most of us 801 builders had a forward s
wept issue when we initally mounted the wings. I would bet yours will st
art out that way too.

That's what I thought, I talked to Caleb at Zenith, and he said the wing
actually has 3 degrees which is built-in via the welded U at the forward
attach. He said to level the fueslage, clamp the wings, and check for
3 degrees lift in the leading edge. Measured against the flattest part
of the bottom of the wing.
Probably not super critical as long as the wings are the same angle,
and close to the 3 degrees. A tad off positive or negative probably goes
away with trim/cg/etc.
How did you fix the leading edge sweep? Just progressive trimming of
the rear spar end?
Jeff

Yes.. To fix the sweep just remove a little off the end of the rear spar
. You will have to trim the wing skin in that area too. In hindsight I p
robably should have left mine slightly swept cause it would have helped
my heavier then normal front end..
