Subject: | What the CH750 really is. |
The Ch 750 is really everything the 701 was not.- For years we have been
trying to stuff 80 and 100 horse power engines into a plane that was design
ed for a 50 HP engine.- I am the owner builder of a 701 with Subaru power
. The plane is a great singleseat airplane but the engine is just too heavy
for the airframe. Yes, it can be balanced and the tail can be counterweigh
ted to produce an excellent flying aircraft that is a hoot to fly around th
e patch.- However in this configuration there is little or no utility lef
t with two persons aboard.- -The 750 however is an airframe that is des
igned to carry a 100HP engine.- The 0.020 skins are an improvement but th
e extra length and wingspan just make it all fit great.- With a gross wei
ght of 1320 and a cruise of 100 mph you now have one serious cross country
airplane. -Sure it=A2s not the fastest machine in the pattern but it is a
very capable cross country machine.- It is now a full time rival for the
Cessna 152 which is about the most successful two seat aircraft ever.-I
saw the 750 at the open hangar day in Mexico and was very impressed. My ord
er is in for the plans. I am hoping they will be delivered before Christmas
. I think this will become a homebuilt classic like the Tailwind or Pietenp
ol Air camper. -Sure the price for a kit is a bit high.- But if you thi
nk about it the price of the 701 has held stable for a long time.- It is
2008 and the dollar will not buy what it used to.- If you are a checkbook
homebuilder and buy all the kits and a fabricated panel with a custom outs
ourced paintjob you could easily spend fifty thousand dollars on this thing
.- If you can fabricate some of your own parts in the original spirit of
the EAA you could save a lot of money on this design.- If you are willing
to make all your parts and use an auto conversion you could have a flying
750 for the price of the kit.- Just another case of money verses
time.-Thanks to Chris Heinz for another great design.-Brett HanleyWarm
