I built the wings first. That sets the distance between the pickup point s for the slats. Those attach points cannot change once the wing is comp lete but the slats do telescope when assembling so you have a little con trol on how they mate to the wing. The flaperons are the same way, excep t they don't telescope. You can trim the butt ends where the splice plat e goes to fine tune any issues though.. Just my opinion do not archive Ben Haas N801BH www.haaspowerair.com -- "bcchurch" <bcchurch@yahoo.com> wrote: I'm looking for some advice about build sequence. Should the wings be m ade prior to the slats / flaperons, vice versa, or is it unimportant? I read ahead in the manual but nothing jumped out at me saying one needs to come first. Any advice from those that have already been there would be great. The tail section is nearly done and I'm looking to move to the next comp onent - and I'm just trying to figure out what to do next. I agree with Ben on this, wings first. Murphy says to do it the other way is a sure guarantee that you'll be a few mm. too much off on the slats. The flaperons would still fit even off by 10 mm as much flex as the arms have. I built the wings first, then built the slats and flaperons to fit. I also aligned the flaperons on the wing, rather than using the Zenith prescribed method. Everything fit together perfectly that way. The Zenith methods, leave a LOT of room for unfixable error in my opinion. Now back to the real beast, those front side skins. I did find a method for that that worked perfectly, but isn't going to be acceptable so I'll end up redoing it again. I annealed the bend area with a propane torch, and got a perfect fit by hand bending. HOWEVER that's going to leave the tensile strength too low. SO I'll either pitch the panel, or figure out a way to double the area to regain stiffness. Anyway the panel I used was wrinkled up from my previous attempt so no great loss to toss it out. I have a Tatco hand squeezer, which I used to use a lot, that is until I bought a rivet gun. Now I just do all my solids with it. Especially the 5/32 which are VERY hard to squeeze. The squeezer is usefull, but a gun can do everything it can plus. Having both on the other hand is good too. Advantage to the squeezer though is less chance of wrecking something, which the gun will do in the blink of an eye if you get careless. I have the one you listed from an Ebay store. It worked well for me. But can't remember using it for anything other than 3/32" rivets (wing, flaperon, elevator, stab. trailing edges), so can't speak to how well it holds up under heavier duty use. Before getting it I had borrowed a pneumatic squeezer for a little while, and that was really convenient. Mine came with two yokes, one that looks the same as in the Ebay store, and another with a longer throat. I don't recall needing the longer throat. I may have paid a little more than $99 too. I also remember the rubber grips didn't stay on the chromed arms too well, mine tended to rotate and slip toward the end a little. Still liked it though.
