Thanks everyone for responding to my email. I appreciate all of the
insight. I have since drilled out my six or seven rivets, and the spar
returned to straight. What I plan on doing next is to set up the spar
so that my rivet location will be slightly higher than the ends, and I
will start with one rivet in the center of the spar, but then will set a
couple rivets on each end. Then I will fill in between the rivets until
the spar is riveted. Hopefully this will minimize any curving.
Someone mentioned that the hammer method for setting rivets is
probably the least desirable. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a
rivet gun, and I definitely don't have access to a power squeezer.
Maybe someday. I will let everyone know what happens with the spars,
hopefully in the next few weeks.

the same curvature, probably about an inch, when it was complete. I had
the spar angles secured to the table so I didn't even notice until I was
done riveting. The blows of the rivet gun probably distorts the aluminum
a bit more that squeezing the rivets would. Squeezing would be the way
to go if you can borrow or purchase a pneumatic squeezer. They are
expensive.

Cheap insurance, can't hurt: place a bunch of drill bits (smooth end of
course) in the rivet holes to ensure things do not move while you rivet.
Good luck

My butt will never go Mexico, MO, I have no need to waste my time and see those
people. If the 'brood' of Uncle-Heintz, cannot publicly document the mythical
110% 701, then it doesn't exist.
The assumption was that somebody here knew how to put an XL-601 firewall forward
on a 701, and its now clear that nobody knows how its done.
I have ordered my CH750 plans months ago, sometime post xmas I'll be getting them.
Like everything else on this site, the 110% 701 is pure malarkey hot air, false
advertising and mythology.
It's very clear that Uncle Heintz no longer does consulting or advising for modifications
to his plans. It's clear that his brood are not engineers. I'm really
not quite clear why anyone needs to go to OZ ( mexico, MO ) to meet the wizard,
when in fact the wizard has retired.
Let's all hope that Zenith survives. Demanding peoples money 50% in advance with
no time commitments on delivery is a ripe recipe for bankruptcy should the economy
for these kit planes ever take a dive.
In the old days your 'one off plans' would have been approved by uncle-heintz,
and theyafter avail to all, given that uncle no longer approves that means your
plans are un-approved. Thus they're not plans, just wishes. Perhaps once your
110% is flying you can sell plans and start a new company competing with zenith?

I removed my slats and weighed them. They weighed 13#. They were also
something of a pain to build. After flying with VGs for a while I cut
the slat brackets off and bondoed up the holes. I will sell my slats
cheap if there is anybody who wants them and is willing to pick them up
in Mississippi. There is no going back for me.
Hope this helps.

I'm sure he does, I have no quarrel with him, that is not what this is about. But
Maybe there needs to be an avenue! Maybe its time for moderators with a set
of rules.
We are a community, so we have to in some situations, regulate or police. I'm
sorry if you disagree, but this person is getting offensive and I would rather
not have to see it at all. We all have different backgrounds, abilities, experience,
finances and opinions. But we all seem to get along too.

Subject: | Re: Elevator Authority |
I see where he is coming from, and given my day job(I'm a c-17 pilot), I know firsthand
the benefit slats provide. Without them, the C-17 would have none of
its short field capability.
Chris Heintz is much more of an expert than I in the area of aerodynamics, but
he is also a salesman, he has a business to run. Slats provide him with revenue,
and in a way are his trademark, so I am not discounting this as being some
of the motivation behind the article. I felt like the graphics he presented
were quite elementary and gave no numbers of any kind regarding the performance,
they merely had a picture with lines. The stolspeed folks provide info, numbers,
and proof of concept videos. I'm going to do a bit more reading into the
matter before making a final decision. If I'm not happy, I'll slip into buyer's
remorse as I unfasten the wing skins and install slat mounts...
PS: I am in no way insulting the man who designed this fine aircraft I will soon
be trusting my life with.

I have the utmost respect for Chris. And I believe that the slats provide the highest
STOL performance possible with this aircraft. But I do not need to do dime
size spot landings and give back change. I just need to land short so it will
work for me and the fuel savings are an added benny.

In my opinion, ignore ore bann . Or anything else to stop him.
But what is gonna stop him from subscribing again with another nickname?
Maybe delete and ignore is better.

Exactly. I am willing to give up 10-15 feet of takeoff roll for ten extra mph
in cruise and better fuel economy. Even if the VGs had a slight negative impact
on the STOL capabilities, it would still have extraordinary ability to get
in and out of just about anywhere.

Ban him. He is not interested in anything we have to say and only wants
to stir things up.
