List,
Marlin P. Jones & Associates (mpja.com) has red flip-up guards for toggle switches
on sale for fifty-three cents each. Item Number is 16100. Search Box is
on their home page.
Can't vouch for the quality, but beats the heck out of $12 or more other places.
Lots of other "stuff" you might find at big electronics/ham sidewalk sale.
Absolutely not associated with this firm....just thought I'd mention it for the
benefit of those packrats in search of items they can't live without.
Regards to all,
Zed/701/R912/90+%/etc

Ya know Chuck, I thought of you when I read that statement. I'm not exactly
sure what they are meaning. I even went back to the Zenith web site to loo
k for your picture when I first read that, just to double check myself that
you did have a 2200 from a while back!!

Subject: Zenith701801-List: CH701 with Jabiru 2200
The following statement was taken from "STOL Updates from Zenith Aircraft C
o." e-mail I received today:
"What made this CH 701 unique was the installed powerplant: a Jabiru 2200..
.."
It is not clear to me what is so unique, as I and others have been flying o
ur CH 701s behind a Jabiru 2200 since 2002.
In fact, you can see my CH 701 on ZAC's web site with the note it has a 220
0.

I believe that it beneficial ( read that as being more profitable ) for them to
stand behind a manufacturer who has done the 2200 install/conversion, in their
701, rather then an individual who through hard work, has accomplished the same
task.
By bringing attention to this engine as an additional lower cost option, they increase
the viability of their product, and make it more appealing or affordable.
Should it ever ( God forbid ) no longer be an acceptable option, then they have
a way out since they are on file as only having stood behind the manufacturer
who initial recommended it's use.

I think they were just giving Jabiru USA a bit of airtime, as they built it and
flew it in. I wouldn't take it personally.

Also, perhaps they are refering to the "New" firewall forward installation from
Jabiru USA rather than a one off done by a builder. Now any builder can plunk
down his checkbook and have a reliable "will work" installation for the Jabiru
2200 on the CH-701. And it is a nice clean installation.
That should not belittle the groundbreaking efforts of a builder who figured it
all out on their own. We all have to respect a builder who can work out the
details of an untested installation and make it work.
It is good for us builders that Zenith and Jabiru USA have a positive relationship.
That way we will get great support from both companies for the planes we
are building.

Subject: | Weight and Balance with BRS |
Regarding Zed's question about cg with the BRS in different
configurations...Once I had the empty weight measured and the empty weight
CG calculated, I did about 5 or 6 additional weight and balance
calculations. You don't need to reweigh the airplane under each different
scenario, just recalculate the cg based on the weights and arms. So I did
my weight and full fuel, my weight and low fuel, pilot and passenger and
max fuel, etc. I don't remember what all the cg's were for all the
different configurations, but every configuration I did had the cg falling
within the correct range. I am pretty sure the cg did move forward when
pilot and passengers are abord, i.e., the most rearward cg was when empty.
It is very likely your DAR will want to see a variety of weight and
balance calculations like this as part of the inspection.

I actually attended the open house and listened to Pete Krotje making the Jabiru
pitch. I don't think he did anything for Zenith. He didn't even promote the
engines but tried a sale pitch on the Jabiru planes. Bad PR for Zenith. Very disappointing!
After the event was over and group of local students asked him about
the engines he finally got his act together.
