Hi everyone, I am joining the world of Zenith 701 on Saturday. My question is,
does anyone fly at gross weight with a Revmaster 75 hp direct drive. I had planned
on taking a buddy with me to pick it up, and am curious if anyone else is
flying grossed out.
The owner can't answer the question because he has just flown the 40 hours off,
and all have been pilot only.
Any thoughts? Grass at 400 msl about 2200 feet long.
(I now fly a Kitfox 1 with 532 rotax that will do this.)
Thanks Dwight

701/801/750'ers,
While at the Zenith Open Hangar Day I talked with one of the vendors about his
new to the market radio/transponder/traffic product. I am attaching a link to
the web site.
It sounds just like what I want, but as you all know, screen shots are great, but
it's what is behind the screen that makes the difference....

Dwight,
I'm not too sure how many Revmaster powered 701 owners you will find on this list.
But, I can tell you the 701 will fly well at gross, W&B considered.
It's all about thrust. You might experiment with first yourself, then maybe 100
lbs of dead weight in the right seat, then add 50 more lbs. etc. till you get
to gross.
email me at twalker(at)cableone.net if you want more info.

Tommy, Dwight, and all,
I read somewhere, of a procedure to add more and more weight until gross, was part
of the 40hr Phase I flight testing.
I had planned on adding (in 20# increments) to the passenger seat, and then go
do plane performance with the added weight. Then land, and add another 20#, and
repeat all tests.
Isn't this part of the Phase I testing, or was I just thinking it was (which I
plan on doing anyway)?

Yes it is a part of Phase I testing. We did it. Used 50lb sacks of
fertilizer and a couple of 25lb weights.
I was under the impression that was what Phase I testing was all about, flying
the airplane at all configurations in order to test climb, stall, turns, etc....
We certified our airplane's VX, VY, etc at gross and it is a part of our log book
entry at the conclusion of Phase I.....

I currently fly a Kolb, but I do have a serious itch to purchase or build a 701
or 750 one day. Are there any 701 owners in the Houston TX area that are on this
list? I would love to come out and see one in person. Thanks for any help,

Subject: | Electrical system |
Phil,
I see you got two electrical configuration responses that are very
different; the Zenith recommendation and a very very simple one. There are a
few basic considerations when deciding upon a electrical system including
what electrical components you want to eventually have, how much you want to
know about what's going on inside your electrical system, how much
redundancy, and what safety features you want. You can have the stuff used
in GA aircrafts such as excess or shortfall information regarding generated
voltage, an automatic generator cut off for very high over-voltage
situations, and an essential buss to turn on only the things you absolutely
need if you loose the generator. I have attached a diagram of the system I
installed, which was designed by Bob Nuckolls at Aeroelectric Connection
(http://www.aeroelectric.com/). It is complex, but still simpler than most
GA systems, . Bob runs seminars about this subject and really knows his
stuff. However, I am not recommending this approach if you want to keep to
really simple. The choice is yours...
Rgds,
Les

Wouldn't it be better to use alloy rod turned to fit the id of the struts?
Harder to drill the holes dead centre (v block) but it sure sounds better to me
than squashed tubes !

Hi Dan,
Take a look at the method shown here for fitting the end pieces to the jury struts.
