Subject: What's My Contribution Used For?
Dear Listers, Some have asked, "What's my Contribution used for?" and that's a good question. Here are just a few examples of what your direct List support enables. It provides for the very expensive, commercial-grade T1 Internet connection used on the List insuring maximum performance and minimal contention when accessing List services. It pays for the regular system hardware and software upgrades enabling the highest performance possible for services such as the Archive Search Engine, List Browser, and Forums. It pays for 19+ years worth of online archive data available for instant random search and access. And, it offsets the many hours spent writing, developing, and maintaining the custom applications that power this List Service such as the List Browse, Search Engine, Forums, Wiki and PhotoShare. But most importantly, your List Contribution enables a forum where you and your peers can communicate freely in an environment that is free from moderation, censorship, advertising, commercialism, SPAM, and computer viruses. How many places on the Internet can you make all those statements these days? It is YOUR CONTRIBUTION that directly enables these many aspects of these valuable List services. Please support it today with your List Contribution. Its one of the best investments you can make in your Sport... List Contribution Web Site: http://www.matronics.com/contribution Thank you for your support! Matt Dralle Email List Administrator

Well I think I've been convinced to build a rivet tank. I was not aware of the blind rivets and I had doubts about the longevity of proseal. So I have decided to build a riveted tank. It allows me to construct it and I can still add a couple of gallons to the total. I also contacted the guys who I was speaking about and got his permission to post his contact info. Again I have only traded emails buthe seems honest and straight up. Said he could help with the wind shield as well. Not sure if that means formed or what? Anyway, replace the (at) with an @ and the email will work... "Keith Cardin"kcardin55(at)yahoo.com Now I just have to build more flanging dies for the wing ribs, hope it doesn't take as long as it did the first time ;^) Thanks again Kevin -------- Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Kevin, A VERY good read on riveted tanks is done by Robert S. Hoover http://bobhooversblog.blogspot.com Title is AV-Yo! Fuel Tank! dated Wed.Dec 6, 2006 and Finger Strainers Sun, June 24,2007 If you haven't been there before be prepared to spend a couple of hours. Bob has been flying behind VW's for approaching 50 yrs and has forgotten more about Vw engines than just about anybody doing them today. He UNDERSTANDS them and teaches you how to build a PROPER engine and the WHYS that go along with the HOW. He's also building a 701 but progress has slowed due to serious health issues. Hopefully he still monitors this list . There is a downside to messing with ProSeal and it's cousins, the stuff is tenacious and will obliterate your fingerprints for a couple months, wear gloves, I HATE working with it but it WORKS and makes riveted tanks practical. I'd heard that about ProSeal too. I was able to get any off my hands and arms by scrubbing with sctockbright pads and Fast Orange (pumice hand cleaner). I used A LOT of rubber gloves. It smells pretty nasty so use lots of ventilation. Once it sets up, the smell goes away. I made my tank in stages over several days as the stuff sets up pretty quickly and needs about a day before you can move it. Oh, also handy to have a small scale with a resolution of less than 0.1 ounce so you can measure out the mixture. I made 1 or 2 ounces at a time. I did my tanks with a pint kit of ProSeal. I had just a little left over. Hello, all If anybody is interested, I have a powerpoint presentation where I documented the construction of my fuel tanks (mostly photos). Send me a note off-list and I'll forward the file. I am building a CH601-HD, so the shape of the tank is different, but the process can be copied. (If you do not have powerpoint, there is a free version of MS-Office like products available that can be downloaded from http://www.openoffice.org/ - versions for Mac and Windows available.) Below some information I put together for someone that was interested and may be of help to some of you: _________ I bought fuel senders and gauges from Don's sport vehicles (www.egauges.com ): 226-002 fuel sender 10-180 ohms $37.75 each 301-104 gauge 2 1/6" for above, Vision Black $25.55 (they may have left and right versions. If they do, I suggest you get one of each. I got 2 of the same - no big deal, but it would have been better.) >From AS&S: Cherry Q BSPQ 42 and 43 - you will have to estimate how many of each you need. AN818-4D AN fittings nut (x2) 0.39 each AN819-4D AN fittings sleeve (x2) 0.33 each AN807-4D AN fittings adapter (x2) 8.60 each AN924-4D AN fittings nut (x2) 0.38 each 03-40400 3003-0 tube 1/4" OD x .032" W (5') 0.50/foot (All of the above for the vent tubes) AN867-2 alum. welding flanges (x2) 6.70 each AN867-3 alum. welding flanges (x2) 6.85 each (fuel output to engine) 05-01870 Curtis drain valves CCA-1600 (x2) 9.60 each 05-17700 finger strainers (x2) 3.40 each 05-01061 UD-3-F fuel cap w/ flat adaptor (x2) 39.95 each 09-38560 PTS proseal 890-class B-type II (x1) 49.20 This might not be exactly what's in the plans, but it works. Some resources that (if still around) can be useful: Two web sites describing the construction of RV tanks: http://vondane.com/rv8a/tanks/tanks1.htm http://www.rvproject.com/20020605.html Pro-Seal phase: http://www.rvproject.com/20020611.html Also, Graham Kirby helped me a whole lot: http://www.601hd.com/fueltanks.htm _________________ Carlos CH601-HD, plans Montreal, Canada

R.D. Here are some more pictures. You should post your info about rivets and flanges to the 701801 list. I think other would find that useful. Curt -----Original Message----- From: owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of R.D.(Ron) Leclerc Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 9:01 PM Subject: Zenith701801-List: Re: HDPE fuel tanks Hey Curt Nice tank... good job, I'm scratch building mine also. My tanks will look just like yours... except for the stub ends. Its nice to see what mine will look like when I'm done. I'm using 5052 H32 aluminum 0.032 for tanks... and will also have a baffle. Both tanks will use one 4 x 6 sheet which is only about $44 at ACS. Since I am making the tanks myself I decided to make them with the same profile as the wing. Van's Aircraft... is a good place to get the various flanges(for rivets) and closed end rivets needed at really good prices. I acquired the drain(cav-110) flange - VA-112($7.80) with the rivet holes already drilled, and the closed end rivets AD-41H(1/16" grip) and AD-42H(1/8" grip) $0.06/per. ACS have the same rivets for $0.18/per... which is nuts. Van's flanges are already drilled for rivets so it makes it easier to work with, and are the only place where I could find them. That also goes for the finger screen flange. I used AN(-4) bulkhead fittings for the vent lines and return lines. I was looking at the same ACS flush mounted caps... but not sure how they can be installed as of yet, have not had time to think about it. The fuel sender I have is the standard VDO... they wanted $20 for the install ring and screws... so I made mine out of 1/8 aluminum, very easy to do. Again nice tank! If you more photos it would be nice to see the rest of the tank! R.D.(Ron) Leclerc CH701 Plans(Scrap) Builder #7-6699 infow@mts.net 11/15/2008 10:45:59 PM

X-mailer: Pegasus Mail for Windows (4.41) For those of you contemplating building this type of tank, and who also want more fuel capacity, it may be possible to simply make the tank longer, resulting in those two ribs being spaced further apart. I base this on my conversations with Zenith. On my 750 kit, they are going to increase total fuel capacity for two tanks from standard 24 gal to about 35 gal. They will do this by moving the ribs and putting in larger tanks. As far as I know, no other modifications will be required, but if you decide to do this you should certainly confirm that with Zenith.
