Dear Listers, Each year at the end of the List Fund Raiser, I post a message acknowledging everyone that so generously made a Contribution to support the Lists. Its sort of my way of publicly thanking everyone that took a minute to show their appreciation for the Lists. Won't you take a moment and assure that your name is on that List of Contributors (LOC)? As a number of members have pointed out over the years, the List seems at least - if not a whole lot more - valuable as a building/flying/recreating/entertainment tool as your typical magazine subscription! Please take minute and assure that your name is on this year's LOC! Show others that you appreciate the Lists. Making a Contribution to support the Lists is fast and easy using your Credit card or Paypal on the Secure Web Site: http://www.matronics.com/contribution or by popping a personal check in the mail to: Matronics Email Lists c/o Matt Dralle PO Box 347 Livermore CA 94551-0347 I would like to thank everyone that has so generously made a Contribution thus far in this year's List Fund Raiser! Remember that its YOUR support that keeps these Lists going and improving! Don't forget to include a little comment about how the Lists have helped you! Nice plane! Thanks for the pics this helps some. So does that telescoping bar stay attached to the cabin front frame all the time? What is the aluminum sheet labeled "door gusset" ? I agree that it seems too cumbersome for common use, but that is not why I'm interested in it. People have commented about how ugly is is and I could not figure out what they were talking about. But if that bar stays in place maybe thats what they are referring to? do not archive Kevin -------- Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. This is the entry from my the manual I wrote: Warning: If operating the aircraft at a weight over the gross weight: 1) The load factor will decrease as follows: 1100 g over gross = 6 x ------------------ Weight in lbs. (1100 +excess) (for example at 1150lbs the limit load factor will be 3.8 Ultimate load factor = limit load factor divided by the standard aircraft safety factor of 1.5) 2) Reduced performance: -Stall speed will be higher. -Rate of climb and controllability will deteriorate. 3) The center of gravity must always stay within the design limits. Kevin, Yes that telescoping piece is attached to the cabin frame all the time even with the wings open. That was the main drawback for me, it sticks out of the door gusset along the bottom of the wing causing drag and is very visable. You could make some fairings to hide them. With the wings folded the?root of the wings hang from this piece which attaches to the top of the cabin frame with 2 tabs(rivets). It would be better to weld these tabs to the cabin frame. Mine did not line up very well(see pics). The door gusset is a pain to install without this?option, it would be more challenging with that tube there. They give you the aluminum to close up the larger hole you will have to make in the door gusset to get it to look good. The tabs or brackets that attach the telescoping piece to the wings will rivet to the lower spar cap. With the wings folded their full wieght(almost, tips are on cradle) is on these tabs sideways and the not so very robust lower cap. If you are moving the aircraft alot the cap will take some unusual stresses that could cause cracks. Of course, just folding the wings and storing the aircraft should not be a problem. If the telescoping bar could be installed somehow that it could be removed when he wings are bolted in place(unscrewed at both tabs and slid out the side) and the brackets removed from the wings(using bolts and nutplates) ugly looks would go away. If you made one hole extra large on one door gusset?then the telescoping piece could slide out from one side, and then access panels made to cover up these holes. Anyway if you can get this mod from the person on the list for shipping, then go for it. I was just not motivated enough to go off on another tangent away from the goal of getting this thing in the air, which I still have not reached yet. The option is expensive and I traded it in for aux tanks. Still building and getting close, a recent divorce has slowed building to a crawl, but I'm very happy I got my plane out of it intact. Just have to do control cables, access panel for oil in cowl, final inspection, first flight. I will update the site soon, it's stuck at Mar 2008 when I moved it to the airport. Keep sighning the guestbook! Brian Unruh Long Island http://www.701builder.com http://www.salecrib.com http://www.islandfunhouse.com

Thanks for the input, that is really what I needed. I think I'll pass on the folding wing. I really don't plan on trailering it much anyway., just seemed like a good idea. Well I guess I'm set to start making wings then. Thanks again!
