If so, how does it perform (climb rate, cruise, etc.). I read an article and it mentioned a fellow named Tom Mills who thought that the 1300 felt like 70 HP. I wonder if it was a reduction drive. Does anyone know about this one? Any input would be greatly appreciated :D Mike Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=220107#220107 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 03:56:34 AM PST US From: MacDonald Doug Subject: Re: Zenith701801-List: Raven/Suzuki 1300 90 HP Conversion Mike, I'm not absolutely sure about this but I think there was a Tom Mills in Southern Ontario that did extensive flight training in a 701 with Suzuki engines. A year or two ago (I think this was it) he got a "to good to pass up" deal on a 912 and switched over. Mark Townsend might have more details as they are located fairly close together. Also, I have no idea if this is the Tom Mills you are refering too. Hope this helps Doug MacDonald CH-701 Scratch Builder NW Ontario, Canada Do Not Archive --- On Fri, 12/19/08, Dirtbos wrote: > "Dirtbos" > > Is anyone out there flying the Raven/Suzuki 1300 90 HP > engine conversion in a 701? If it is, then search matronics Zenith list for the Purple Dragon Rick I think is flying behind one. www.n701RR.com is his website. I took a look at Rick Robert's website and only find a Cessna 140 featured. I could not find anything about his 701. I had seen photos of his aircraft before. It is a very nice example of quality construction. Great paint job also. I would love to get some more information about this aircraft. Not sure what is up? Rick are you out there? I was thinking of this engine but Ricks sudden silence as of late has pretty much put me off of this engine. Sure would like to hear from you Rick. Of course, my memory could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. He said that the plane "flew great". No performance specs though. I especially like his aircraft because of the look of the cowling he used. Apparently he used a VW Rabbit radiator that sits back under the engine "similar to what the Subaru guys use". He referred me to Larry McFarland's site, http://www.macsmachine.com/ . Larry built an HD but the site shows some good shots of the radiator set up. Personally I'm feeling pretty good about the combination at this point. Of coarse I'm going to do some more research. I spoke to the owner at Raven today. After the Holidays he is going to refer me to some builders that have used the 1300 with his re-drive. He is quite busy now due to a time sensitive remodel (I believe at his shop) so I am going to leave him alone until then. It is certainly not a 100 HP 912, but I would think it would perform at least as well as the 80 HP version. And you cannot beat the price tag. Probably a bit "draggy" but with the 701, I won't be looking to break any speed records anyway. Just have some fun.
