I've got every rivet stem I ever pulled in a large coffee can 7/8 full. You're welcome to come to my house and count them. Seriously though, now that you mention it I really should get a count. Did anyone else keep the stems I wonder. Maybe I'll count them over Xmas of no one comes up with an answer....Geoff Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=220903#220903

I believe you could be holding it an an angle or not holding it down firm. Here's a little suggestion I use and it helps keep the riveter head from bouncing off and marking your aluminum and popping the stem too early. The reason I am mentioning this is because sometimes when you put pressure hard down on the head, it will bounce when it pops, you will get a nice little dent next to your rivet. What happens is that you end up holding your riveter up or pulling away too fast and it pops the stem off without tightening the rivet. I hope that makes sense. Anyway get a piece of soft leather and cut a small hole in it to surround the rivet. When it bounces, it will bounce on the leather. Keep downward pressure until it pops. Take care, Larry Ed T wrote: > > Harvey, > > I was having similar problems with my almost new hand riveter, but the rivet stems broke off higher...10-15mm. mmmmm, it seems you need to use the right pressure from your compressor. Read the manual of your riveter and you=B4ll find the supposed PSI to work without problems. bye. 2008/12/24 Larry <lrm@skyhawg.com> > > I believe you could be holding it an an angle or not holding it down firm . > Here's a little suggestion I use and it helps keep the riveter head from > bouncing off and marking your aluminum and popping the stem too early. Is it possible that the jaws on your puller are scoring the stem deeply enough that the stem is pulling apart where the jaws grab it. Do the ends of the stems look like they have been scored on each side and then broken or stretched to failure in the remaining cross sectional area? Will try to make sure it is square and tight to rivet and surface. The rivet gun is the one zenith sells and only has a 1000 or so A4s pulled and very few A5s. No air pressure problems as I have a compressor but no pneumatic rivet gun. Had a forced landing in a cotton field. Thought it was carb ice, so I automatically ordered the carb heat kit from Lockwood. Turns out that the problem was a totally clogged fuel filter (little black and clear plastic fibers). It's a nice looking unit which circulates hot water around the carbs Have decided I don't need it - perhaps someone in a more humid climate could use it? Paid $295. Will sell for $220 plus $10 shipping. Fred Sanford Ca. N9701 Do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=220981#220981

Why is your filter clogged? I had a gyro once or twice and the fuel filters kept stopping up. What it was, was little pieces of foam breaking loose from that "anti-blow up foam" RAF used. They used all the little pieces to fill in the voids. You should check out why it was stopped up. There is a reason and it isn't good. Don't just use a band aid, fix it. IRM: I had just gotten fuel at Colinga, Ca. in some ferocious winds - 25-40 knots on landing. Don't know if I can blame the fuel or not. The engine started missing about 20 minutes later, and just kept getting worse. When I cracked the filter open (the small plastic cone filters from ACS) there were obvious hairs everywhere. Put in a new similar filter and flew it 20 minutes to Los Banos and drained all of the fuel. Fueled up and installed another similar filter, and flew it 2.5 hours home. Will be installing a larger fuel filter. Still don't know the source of the fibers. They melt when I heat them. The fuel getting to the filter had to go through the screen of my ACS gascolator and down 1 foot of hose to get to the filter. There were no obvious fibers on the screen. A real mystery.........Fred do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=221016#221016
