Mark T Hi Kevin: I understand trying to save weight as I am also planning a heavy engine. I misspoke when I quoted my costs for the .125 as it was about $100.00 for four 25foot lengths and not 2 lengths. There was a thread about the weight issue a few months ago and the difference in weight between using .093 and .125 is measured in ounces. Hi Kevin and Ralph, The picture you posted Kevin is exactly what I want to build. I just cant see wasting the area between the 10-gal Zenith tank and the rear spar. I also like the duel fuel outlets. Just like piper Pacer, Tripacers and Cubs. I suppose that 4# (+ or - a bit) could be expressed in ounces, but it really IS 4 pounds. I've gone to a lot of effort to get the pounds off my airframe and engine but I succumbed to the .125 angle even thou it it less than my imposed limit of saving weight at the rate of $100 per pound. Decided FINALLY to wet the wing instead of building tanks. I think it'll be easier, I KNOW I'll save 2-3 #. 4 sticks of .125" x1.5" x 25ft is 22.23 lbs 4 sticks of .093 x 1.5" x 25 ft is 17.28 lbs So 4.95 lbs difference, I'll still be someplace around $16,000.00 ahead, by using the Corvair, so its worth it to me. http://www.steelforge.com/steelweights.htm no angle calcs available so I used flat stock@ 1.5" x 300' x 4 Kevin -------- Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. I was kicking that wet tank thing around, and I'd do it if the skin were .020 or .025, but at .016 I think I'll stick to the separate riveted tank, but extended for more fuel. But then I have to admit John, I do not have as long ( or even any ) of a history with experimentals as you, maybe when I build my CH650 8) Kevin do not archive -------- Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. That was my thought as well, decided to make the top and bottom wing skin .025 in the area of the tank, either overlap at a rib or make a butt joint with a strip of 025 to join to the rest of the wing skins. Thanks for the compliment but the shop floor has been littered over the last 35 yrs with MANY miscues, hopefully this won't be one of them. > They seem to have a lot of 701 stuff on their website yet, for a company not supporting 701s. > > do not archive > > Kevin I asked them about that. They said they really don't have control of their website anymore. They want to remove that information since they don't have anything for Zenith Aircraft in stock anymore. No, I don't get it either. To their credit, they were somewhat helpful in identifying the mysterious rivet. It is normally used for fuel tanks because the mandrel provides an air and water-tight seal. They indicated it's meant for riveting the lexan to the door. No, I don't quite get that one either. Anyway, they said just follow the instructions provided. Here's the problem: they never provided instructions and don't have any available! They said I could follow the ZAC plans for the bubble doors (pictorial guides), but I always saw those as a bit cryptic. Okay, I'm done complaining now. I'm getting back to work on my doors.
