The 801 strut covers don't fit the 701 without cutting them down. Suggest
you see my email, sent a few months ago, regarding this.

Yes they do look "sexy" I guess. They are also supposed to be very
functional. I have heard a conservative 3-4 MPH increase in speed all the
way up th 6-8 MPH speed increase. Strut fairings are well worth the effort
to install. My 701 will have them once finished.

Kevin,
My block is a solid block of aluminum 2" high. Extending the nose gear
2 inches lowered the tail about 6 inches. With my Jab 2200 and
batteries on the fire wall, my cg was still towards the back so the
solid aluminum helped the cg a teeny bit.

Chuck what height were you able to get the SP version tail height down
to using
the 2" spacer? I wouldn't need to modify the shed... I mean hanger as
much, if
I could fit the 701 in an 8 foot tall door.

Rick
Unfortunately I only flew-off the first 25 hrs on wheel back in 95. My a/c
has been on amphibs since and the only picture I can find of the nosewheel
strut extension is not great. It was taken after the first test flight and
you can see the top joint but the top of the nose fork is in the shadows.
I scratch built so I just made two extra strut plates, welded them to a 4"
piece of cromemoly (Same as the strut) and bolted it between the strut and
the fork.
For those who have a problem with door clearance I include a picture of my
a/c on floats with a longer nose strut to clear a 9' door. You can see that
the a/c sit on the ground with a 5' positive angle. (That's the thrust,
cabin tube line). The wing has a +2.5' angle of incidence so rolling with
all three wheels on the ground I have +7.5' angle of attack. .
The only negative with this is you must make sure you get the nose up to
above 10' on landing so you don't land nose wheel first and get into a
porpoise. That should not be a problem for the slated 701
Hope this helps
Carl
