Subject: | Flying to Oshkosh? |
I am starting to plan a flight from the San Francisco Bay area to AirVenture
this summer, with a group of faster aircraft, leaving from Santa Rosa CA.
Never having done this before, I have some questions that some of you will
be able to answer:
. About how many Zenith CH 701s flew to Oshkosh last year?
. Is there a special parking area where 701s congregate?
. If you ever flew to Oshkosh in a 701 from the West or North West,
can you suggest routes and daily travel schedules and are there good places
along this route to camp-out or are motels the better option?
. Does the factory offer any amenities to Zenith fly-ins?
. Do any of you 701-ers from the West or NW wish join our flying
caravan to Oshkosh?
Regards,
Les

I met a fellow from Washington in his 701 (long flight he said) and also
noticed a couple of 801's there. Also a really nice 701 amphib at the
float plane harbor.
If I fly down, I'd be tempted to check the notam and sneak into the
ultralight field, especially as I have a bunch of buddies that camp in
that hayfield across the road.
>From the ultralight field you could show the crowd some of the virtues
of the 701 and even give a few rides.
I flew a J-5 down one time and stopped overnight at Eau Clair, Wisc.
Nice place. Also overnighted at Wautoma when I flew down my Starduster

Hi guys,
If you're happy with your prop clearance and just need to lower the tail a
bit to get it in the hanger, just drop a plank on the hanger floor for the
nose wheel to run on - no airframe modifications necessary!

Hi Les;
Great idea. I plan on flying my 701 to Oshkosh when it is
finished. Having flown in there several times id 172's and an Arrow I would
recommend that you down load the notam when it is available and fly in as a regular
aircraft. Flying in to Oshkosh is one of the most memorable thing you will
ever do as a pilot. It's a blast.
