Subject: Options to fix horizontal stabilizers mounts too far
    inside?
    From: John Marzulli <john.marzulli@gmail.com>
I placed the horizontal stabilizer mounts 10mm to far inside on both sides. This was only for the forward mounts. The aft mounts are placed perfectly. Two options exist in my mind for fixing this: 1. Create a custom mount from the fuselage side shaped to clear the flange of the stabilizer's mount. This would require a spacer and a much longer bolt. It also increases the chance of the mount cracking. 2. Open the stabilizer and move the mounts 10mm outside. This may require some work to the spar. The first option seems the easiest, but possibly not airworthy. The second option seems the best ( and a bunch of work ), but I am worried that filling in the old holes in the spar will interfere and rub with the mount causing cracking that I could not see. Hi John. I know it's only 20mm (3/4") total but with the supports closer to center the relative airflow, gusts, maneuvers near top of maneuvering envelope would have a stronger leverage on the horizontal stab. Not much. The wider spaced mounts would be more stable. My thoughts...Geoff Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=230076#230076

far inside? Hate to say it John but I think you are going to be opening up your stab. As for the internal repair, might it be possible to turn the brackets around the other way and re-use the spar mounting holes? I believe the 750 has the stab mounted with the angles going inwards rather than the 701's outward brackets. Might be worth a call to Zenith on that one Do Not Archive Doug MacDonald CH-701 Scratch Builder NW Ontario, Canada --- On Fri, 2/13/09, John Marzulli <john.marzulli@gmail.com> wrote: > From: John Marzulli <john.marzulli@gmail.com> > Subject: Zenith701801-List: Options to fix horizontal stabilizers mounts too far inside? > To: zenith701801-list@matronics.com > Date: Friday, February 13, 2009, 2:51 AM > I placed the horizontal stabilizer mounts 10mm to far inside > on both sides. > This was only for the forward mounts.
