You just assumed that, "I'd think keeping with not being a professional.". You are right with you suggestions for a non professional/backyard painter doing the job, maybe even a little high. I certainly don't take offense because you intended none. You just don't know me. I'm certainly not trying to be pompous and anyone who knows me will tell you I don't have a pompous bone in my body. But, I don't think it hurts to tell you and the others a little about my painting back ground. So that when I give an opinion about painting it comes from many years of experience, mostly professional. I'm not always right, but I didn't just read it somewhere either. I have painted four of my aircraft one of which won Rotorcraft Grand Champion in 2001. I have painted 500+ cars professional for individuals and dealers. I have all the facilities and equipment. Being retired, I'd rather be doing something else, but this guy will need his plane painted and I don't know what to charge. I don't want to rip him off but at the same time it is a lot of work and time involved to do it right, and there ain't no other way but right. More suggestions please?. Larry, no one can rightly answer that question for you, the average paint job Is anywhere's from 4K-8K. Nevertheless you have painted several planes in the past, you know the time involved, with 500+ cars behind you then you know your quality, as I read your letter you have more experience then anyone on the list and are best Qualified to answer your own question. Sit down figure the time you will put into it then multiply it by the value of your life experience and the quality of your personal time, also add in a flavor of friendship or acquaintance. You will come out with a # that is appropriate for you to charge. IF the fellow agrees then your both happy, I the does not agree then you can discuss it or move on to your own project and be happy not to have to do all that work for someone else. I have the experience myself to paint the interior of a plane with an HVLP, however I do not have the facilities or the personal ability to do a professional job in shop. I farm out the paint job all the time. I had a local Farm equipment company do a job and it was one of the better works which cost me $1500 for them to just shoot it, I did all prep work, I had a local chap like yourself do a job for $4500 and he did all the work . I used a collision center and the total was $7,000 all this Is in Canadian funds if that makes a difference. I hope this reference helps a bit. However, honestly only you know the value of your retirement time. Hello Les, Thank you for your gracious invitation. I would like to accompany your group on some outings this summer. If you could, please send me your e-mail address and a phone number to rick@ravenaviation.us so I can follow up. I must say I am very disappointed in the lack of response to my posting, yours was the only one. I thought there would be some 701 fliers in Calif that would like to do some back country flying. Thanks for the advice, but what I was really after was what people have actually paid so I could feel that I was giving him a fair price and at the same time not shorting myself to much. Painting cars and airplanes are apples and oranges. Most cars per square foot take a lot more prep that a newly build airplane. You really can't make a comparison. And when I painted my aircrafts, I did it piece meal and didn't keep track of time involved. So you see how much easier it is to ask around than pull a price out of my head? That's my rationale. Take care, Larry, N1345L ZodieRocket wrote: > > Larry, no one can rightly answer that question for you, the average paint > job Is anywhere's from 4K-8K. Subject: How big is the kit?
    From: "Benjamin Q" <ben.queener@gmail.com>
I bought a kit and delivery is due in weeks, but I am thinking about picking up my 701 instead of having it shipped. I was a little surprised at the rates I would have to pay for a u-haul. I think when you count the truck, the airline ticket to get there and the gas I would end up spending around 1800 to 2000. This would be about the same cost I pay for having the kit crated and shipped. Anyway, I have a wagon with a lot of space. By looking at the pictures on the website I think I could fit all of the kit in my car except for the larger skins and spar. I am thinking about putting a box on my car for the longer pieces and throwing everything else inside. So my question to you good forum folks is : How big is the kit? Does anyone have a picture of a single kit ready for pickup? Is this a crazy idea? Any other ideas? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=233295#233295

I'm thinking of ordering the "MATCO WHEEL SET w/SP. CALIPERS, w/TUBELESS TIRES" (CUSAAU-40D, $1046.45). What comes with this? Does it include the master cylinder? I'll call ZAC tomorrow but I figured I'd get a head start on figuring this out. Curt Plans building, CH701
