    Damien, The answer is no and yes. ZAC have not approved any change to the max gross wt. on the 701. If its an early model, 880 lbs, later, up to Rev.4 , 960 lbs. and after that 1100 lbs. You can upgrade a 960 lbs with the 40 structural parts changes listed in the revision-4 plans. There is a statement with the plans that details how to calculate the reduction of G loads the airframe will be able to tolerate if the aircraft is OPERATED above the stated max gross wt. They do not say if the aircraft meets the design rules if operated above max gross, or whether you would be required to calculate and placard the new airspeeds vne, vd, vfe, vs, va. There is some rumour about additional fuel bays in the wing not being counted as extra load, also amphibian floats being aerodynamic and not part of the calculation, but I have found no approval for this on my plans or in any ZAC CH701 data sheets. Of course it will fly above design gross, I see many examples doing just that. But as with most aircraft, the main idea is to get to your destination in one piece, with sufficient robustness in the structure to allow for normal wind gusts, build quality and wear. By definition, an Ultralight or Microlight class aircraft means certain safety and durability limits have been pared back to minimums already. No rocket science there.     Can't speak to the wing tank issue but I did ask Sebastian to clarify the float weight increase issue and he sang from the Zenith hymnal that the aerodynamic shape of the floats supports themselves in flight so payload does not decrease. I didn't swallow this entirely so asked the question of Chris when I wrote him on several other matters and he repeated the same on paper. Still have my doubts about the ENTIRE list of moments that can be generated by the large mass of the floats hanging under the plane in gusts is of no consequence but I defer to a long history of successful operation of 701's on floats at above 1200# so I'm still building mine.     Yes John I'm quite sure the floats wont be a problem. Interesting to note our NZCAA has entered the registration details of the 2 CH701 which have floats, at MCTOW 544 Kg. I have seen one of these aircraft up close, and the airspeed limit markings and placards are identical to other CZAW europe spec 701s. (the BCAR specs) What irritates me is that when I registered my own CH701 the 500 Kg weight was rejected and they placed it at 480 Kg, an impossible figure because no CH701 model was declared compliant with that TP10141e weight category (1058 lbs) I was told that if my weight was entered into the computer all the others would be upgraded and that was the reason. When I built my 701, another builder thought I should use the Pegastol wings for the same price as ZAC wings, because I would get 125 mph Vne and 1058 lbs weight limits for a stock 110 mph / 960 lbs CH701 airframe. There are a number of these registered as CH701 models here.     I had posted a smiler question awhile back, and as I understand it( correct me if I'm wrong) you can register it at any weight you want in the US as an EHB? I'm not sure what the insurance would do and I wounder if its best to register at standard gross and do what you have to when you have to??? Like said already your goal is to get to your destination, but its the wording that is s little slippery to me in this case. I have heard of701s being flight tested at 1300 lbs with out floats.
