I have narrowed it down to one of 3 engines the Jabiru 2200 Jabiru 3300 or the Rotax 912 uls 100 HP. I have talked to Roger at Zenith he recommends the Rotax. I have not spoken with any of the Jabiru 701 builders. I would like to here your comments if you have installed either of the engines in your 701. Plus, you can add floats in the future. I have a lot of short grass strips here in NC that benefit from the extra zip of 100hp. I also have no cooling problems. I would agree with Roger if he were the one supporting the Rotax but I have read of too many maintenance problems and the lack of support from the factory that I would advise caution in that selection. The price of the Rotax is also, or was, significantly higher than the Jabiru choices. I chose the 3300 only because I will be operating out of an 8,000 foot grass strip and want to get at least 85 hp at that altitude. If you will be operating mainly from fields below 5,000 msl the 85 hp from the 2200 should be sufficient for most normal operations. My current EFIS (MGL) and radio (XCOM) incorporate many of the functions of these separate pieces (AOA, AP, transponder encoder, intercom). I'll be listing these items on Barnstormers in a few days but figured I'd post the list here. Each of these items is unused, uninstalled and typically in the manufacture's original box with the original manual. I don't know about all of their warrantees but Trio has confirmed that the warrantees on their autopilots start at first use, not time of purchase. Some of this gear was purchased as far back as 2005 but for the most part the design hasn't changed. I and the parts are located in Utah. Prices include shipping via UPS Ground within the US. Photos and more information available on request. Contact me DIRECTLY at craig@craigandjean.com. Don't just reply to this message and clutter up the list.
