Hi guys, I am starting to nail daown the final details of my 701 project. One
of the remaining details of the project is the placement of my aircraft dataplate.
I live in Canada and have checked with Transport Canada. They tell me I
can place it anywhere on the exterior that would be visible from the ground standing
outside the aircraft or a place in the interior where it can be seen standing
at the main entrance. In otherwords, I can place it anyplace I want (within
reason). Since I live on the border, I was thinking that it would make
sense to meet the US standard as well and the Canadian one since I will likely
fly to the US at some point.
The question then becomes, what is the US standard for dataplate location?

On my 801 I riveted it to the left side of the fuselage just under the h
orizontal stabilizer. 99 % of the planes I have looked at had theirs at
that location.. YMMV

Ahhh, the fun with trying to form sheet metal with ratchet straps.
Ive been off the build for a few months to work to support the
project :). Nice to be back in the shop and blogging again!
Appreciate any advice from my fellow listers on getting the wing nose
skins to conform to nose ribs. Not as bad as horiz stab but still
frustrating. Couple of questions
1) If the nose skin conforms to all nose ribs except for first rivet
holes on ribs 2 & 5 (ones without slat brackets) and the skin overlaps
the top skin by 15 - 17 mm (rather than the 20mm specified) am I
correct to assume this is as good as it gets and just shim the first
rivet holes on nose ribs 2 & 5 to avoid dimples?
2) The plans and videos show a number of different strapping
plans. Are the straps suppose to go completely around wing or
should ends be secured to table. If the latter, how do you get the
2x4 support under trailing edge not to move. (I did both - 6 straps
anchored to table as in video and a couple extra completely around
wing. Finally clamped 2x4 to table and had a couple of very large
friends hold everything.
3) Do I dare ask without getting jealous if the new 750 kit has
preformed metal to avoid these issues? I very close to ordering the
kit as I may have a buyer for my 701.
Appreciate your help folks.
