Hi Victor,
are you using the new pre-drilled nose skins?
My kits were older and i had to drill all the nose skin holes. i always had a
full 20 mm overlap.
let us know.

Hi Klondike,
Would you care to elaborate? Both my 701's have the rubber hose going through
the firewall with a grommet in place. I believe this is per the plans.
the fuel shutoff is two feet back.
Just curious.

Listers,
I am looking for a two button stick grip for my 701 project.
I looked on the RC Allen site but didn't see anything with two buttons. I have
a radio that has provisions for a PTT and Memory. I would like to use one button
for PTT and the other to scroll through the memory channels.
Many Thanks,

Tommy I picked up some game controller joysticks that I will be using in
my GlaStar . I just picked up one the other day, it was free on Craigslist
and that one had two microswitch buttons. I bought one for $15 last year
which had about 5 switches, that one goes on my stick :) . I haven't looked
into how they will mount to the stick yet but others have done the same thing
so I am sure I can too.

My last flight up here in the frozen north of ND was early December.
Then it snowed and got below zero and my runway stayed closed all winter
with 2 or 3 feet of snow.
FINALLY, believe it or not, the snow melted! After doing a 'mini
annual' I took off yesterday and flew around an hour or so to get the
feel of the machine again. I'd almost forgotten how much fun the little
701 was, so now with 8 hours left on my test time I have to seriously
work on some V speeds and start adding weight to bring it up to gross
weight, then repeat it all. After a few touch and goes, I flew it
around in various configurations and airspeeds for a total of about 3
1/2 hours, enduring gusty cross winds near the end of the flight.
For all you builders out there, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
And believe me, its worth it in the end! What a fun machine!

Do you want exactly *two* buttons? You couldn't use the RAC G205 and not use
all of the 4 top buttons (the PTT is on the front). You could use the extra
buttons for elevator trim up and down.

Also the RAC G301 has the PTT switch and a blank faceplate. So you could
drill out the faceplate for one switch. The underlying plastic is the same
for the G30x models so the support will be under the faceplate for as many
or as few switches as you want. $69.

Subject: | Re: 701 Fuel line question |
Tommy: I looked at my fuel line thru the firewall today. After 60
hours there was no sign of wear on the grommet or fuel line. I looked
at the plans, reviewed all of the assembly guidelines for the601, 701,
and 801 (on the Zenith site) and could not find a picture or any mention
of how to install the fuel lines.
I think with frequent inspections, the rubber hose thru the grommet is
ok but there is the possibility of the grommet wearing out and the fuel
line being cut by the sharp firewall. I reviewed HomebuiltHelp's video
on 912 installation tips and they had a picture of the rubber fuel line
coming thru the firewall inside of an electrical conduit connector.
After reviewing this, I came to the conclusion that this would be less
likely to cause a problem so I made the change. It only took me a
couple of hours. This is one area where Zenith could offer some
guidelines in their documents.

Tommy,
For some reason the post due not appear on my email on a regular basis.
I.E. I just noticed the post below attached to this letter.
To penetrate the firewall on my 701 ( I have since sold it) I used a "brass
Barb fitting" from the local hardware store. Used rubber fuel line on both
sides , pushed tight to the firewall, so it couldn't vibrate and clamped the
lines. I think Dan is OK with what he did below. I feel that just a
rubber gromet in the firewall was not enough. Just my opinion. Believe me
, I have the most respect for Chris, But there are several places where
some things can be accomplished a little better.

Tommy,
I recommend a std aviation 4-5 button stick grip. I find it very convenient
to have the up-down elevator trim at my fingertips on this grip. I also have
my PTT and EZ-autopilot disconnect there. This works really well.
