Subject: | fiberglass wing tip fitting |
Hi folks. Struggling with fiberglass wing tip installation. I can
either get tip to conform to nose skin or fiberglass wing tip in far
enough to get min 20mm skin overlap but not both.
Greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Found the following post when searching the archives. I have same
problem with wing tip pointing down if fit is correct.
Heat gun ..... any comments?
Haven't seen the photo you mentioned, but just about everybody runs into
problems with these wingtips. I decided the main thing is to
make sure you have the tip rotated back far enough so the bottom of the
airfoil remains flat; i.e, the leading edge doesn't sag a little bit
at the
end.
On the first tip I did, I got everything cocked around so the skin
followed
the fiberglass leading edge perfectly, but I ended up with the wingtip
pointing down just a bit from the rest of the wing. On the next wing, I
made sure the bottom edge was flat and accepted the 1/4" gap
between the skin and the fiberglass that resulted at the nose. Filled
it in
with fiberglass filler from West Marine, which works real good for such
things.
As one of the other posters mentioned, a carefully applied heat gun
works
great on the fiberglass tip to flex it a little where needed.
