Bob,
Astute observation! I decided to use a smaller 1/8th-inch hole to try to
minimize potential water getting into the fuel. I thought I would test
the smaller hole and see if I had any problems drawing fuel. I did not
have problems so I decided not to go with the full 1/8th-inches.

Les, The Zenith 7-V-11 drawing shows you drilling an additional 1/8"
hole in the cap. Look at 1K at the top left of he drawing. Not sure if
everyone has done this or not. A 1/16" hole does not vent much fuel.

Guys,
I purchased a few of these Wag Aero fuel caps for my 701. Easy to bend
and they fit nice and tight. However I have not used them for two
reasons. (1) They stick up higher and are not as streamlined. I
don=99t want more drag and flow interference on top of the wing.
(2) I don=99t like fixing things that aren=99t broken. The
Zenith provided caps with a 1/16th=9D hole in the middle seem to
work fine.

Craig,
That is what I used and like Tommy said, no more venting fuel over the
wings. I am very happy with them

Mike,
There was no vent hole in the caps that came with my 701 kit. I drilled a
hole in the center of the top of the cap, making certain you don't go any
further than the outer skin of the cap. I see Bob Spudis said he drilled
through the inside of the cap. All I know is that my caps vent just fine.

Subject: Zenith701801-List: 701 Fuel cap
Since the recent discussion about fuel caps, I looked at my plans and it
does say to open up the 1/16 inch vent hole to 1/8 inch. Has anyone done
this and would you explain the procedure?
Also while looking at fuel caps, I see Aircraft Spruce has a vented cap
(05-03459) with a hole drilled on the outside (I assume the hole faces
forward for ram pressure) that looks very similar to ours. Has anyone
modified their cap in this way or is there a problem with doing this?
Thanks

I have added a couple of new items to my Experimental Aircraft parts list.
I now have a really nice CNC cut Data Plate with a Zenith Logo. Is really
cool!
Also have added a line of CNC cut Fuel Drain Trim plates.
Check it out at: http://www.mykitairplane.com
Thanks,
George
