The caps Zenith supplied with my 801 ki t were vented but not to the top, they have small holes that breath unde r and outboard of the top surface. After my 801 stained my paint on the first flight I quickly surveyed the whole situation and bought two more caps from Zenith. Those I epoxied up the holes to make them non vented s ince my fuel system incorporated additional venting to the tanks termina ting under the wings. No siphoning of the fuel out the top of the wings now and after 270 hours and a few thousand gallons burned not a hint of venting issues. The 801's are not either. Because of the 801 crash in Te xas a few years ago I purposely ran multiple vents in my fuel system so as to not repeat that exercise.. tailwinds do not archive Ben Haas N801BH www.haaspowerair.com ---------- Original Message ---------- From: NYTerminat@aol.com Subject: Re: Zenith701801-List: 701 Fuel Cap Ben,The 701 tanks are not vented, except through the cap. I had an article on this somewhere but now I can't find it. Basically, it entailed filling the tank with fuel, disconnecting the fuel line at the engine, and measuring the fuel flow. I think the idea was to make sure that the fuel system would supply fuel at the maximum consumption rate of the engine (times some reserve factor). This is done with the airframe tilted to represent max and min incline. This might highlight a venting problem as well.
