Is it an improvement over the original with regard to gradual splaying? bob wetzel -=0A=0A=0A ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:21:39 AM PST US From: "fritz" Subject: Re: Zenith701801-List: grove gear I beleive the "secret" is using heat when forming the main landing gear "spring". I used heat when I scratch built my 701, after 4 years and some "not so nice" landings--- the gear looked the same as the day it was made. ----- Original Message ----- From: bob wetzel To: zenith701801-list@matronics.com Sent: Thursday, July 09, 2009 3:24 AM Subject: Zenith701801-List: grove gear Have any of you 701 owners replaced the Zenith main gear with one by Grove? I know they heated the aluminum-- they do have temp sticks but they also told me that----"to determine the proper heat on the aluminum bar, they lay down a layer of soot from a prooane torch, than heat the aluminum to the point that the soot "disappears"-- at that point the bar is ready to bend. The trick is keeping the bar at the proper temperture.--------- Last week they just bent the mlg spring for the 750 I am scratch building-------- I don't know if they used a temp stick or the "soot method" but it came out real nice. I don't know if this is something the "novice" could or should attemp-------maybe some of the other folks can at to this.
