Well, I am thinking about it. The majority of my flying will be around 10,500 and
above, so I am looking at something turbo'd, but the 914 is "VERY PRICEY"

Paul Reinders was a friend and the most experienced pilot I knew. For those
of you who didn't know Paul, he resided in Santa Rosa, Ca and in Wasilla,
Alaska. He was ferry pilot, a great story teller, a poet, and a very active
EAA member in Santa Rosa. He offered to help many of us 701 builders and
flew with me on my first flight in my new 701. He was in his early 70's,
with over 35000 flying hours, and was an flight examiner for Boeing 747 and
Zenith 701 aircraft. We all miss him.
A few things that the NSTB did not say about the accident is that Paul
talked about removing the 701's header fuel tank due to "problems" and that
he had just had his 80-HP Rotax 912 overhauled by CPS.
Below find an appropriate poem written by Paul that was presented at his
memorial service.

HEADED WEST TO THAT HIGHER GROUND

Short on wing, as a general rule,
Short on power and low on fuel,
Saw this country far and near,
But a few more feet now I need to clear.
I'm asking, Lord, with the faith I've found,
Just lift me o'er that higher ground,
Just ahead, (and well above).
Land I've grown to know and love.
But I'm not anxious for my just reward,
And one more time, I'm asking, Lord.
'Cause I've no wish to hear that trumpet sound.
Just lift me 'bove that higher ground.
One more time, please help me now,
One more time in this leaden scow,
I hope to slip just over the brow,
O'er that mesa, rocky and red.
Lord, just let me clear by a tiny thread.
and I'll change my ways in the years ahead.
Gonna change my ways
In the remaining days,
Won't push my luck in this leaden truck.
But with eagles' wings the last time 'round,
I'll cross over to that higher ground,
Headed west* and heaven bound.

Thanks for sharing that. I read something about Mr. Reinders in some of the Zenith
stuff last year. All very positive.
