I'm building a 750 and this allows me to buy parts as needed. The 701 elevator
has a different TE, so you'd need to fab your own internal trim tab to match.
Not really hard to do.
The 750's trim tab is a complicated multiple bend affair and I figured I'd ruin
more aluminum trying to duplicate it than it was worth.

Hi Mike and list,
Mike, you asked about A65 Continentals several weeks ago. I'm not yet in
the air so take this for what it's worth. I'm building (slowly!) a 701
with an A65 that I converted to an A80. It still needs to be hand propped
and it won't compete with a 100 hp Rotax, but it's not a difficult
conversion and gives you a few more horses and a simple, reliable, and
inexpensive engine. The differences are called out in the old Continental
Repair Manual. Basically the A80 is an A65 with extra oil holes in the rod
caps, different valves, higher compression pistons and a larger venturi in
the carb and you run it at a higher RPM to get 80 HP. I also balanced my
engine which should help with the higher RPMs. An A75 is basically the
same without the high compression pistons. The bare engine weight is 170
lbs and my fire wall forward weighs about 200lbs. My empty airplane weight
will be between 600 and 650 lbs with tundra gear and 1100 gross weight. (
basic VFR, no frills- keep it light) I'm also extending my wing span by 2
ft.per sketch by Chris, and plan to try the VGs instead of slats. Most of
my flying will be solo so I'm hoping the A80 will be adequate. To look at
it another way, I'll have the same wing span as the Ch750 and I'll be
about 100 lbs lighter which should give me something similar to the climb
performance of an 0200 equipped CH750. I'll keep you posted if and when I
get this thing in the air!
