Is there a problem with painting the exposed ends of rudder and elevator cables. My painter suggests we simply turn the rudder lock-to-lock and paint all exposed cable. I just want to make sure that isn't a safety issue. What have others done when painting? -------- Ernest Jessee N4931M Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=265511#265511 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:48:50 AM PST US From: LarryMcFarland Subject: Re: Zenith701801-List: painted rudder and elevator cables Ernest, It's probably a better idea to mask off the cables as you would your attaching hardware. The better to see and inspect the condition of your cables during their lifetime. Tell your painter to quit being lazy and use a little tape. It is very hard to fly as the stiffness of the controls cause the inputs to be too much in all axess. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a solution or know the cause? Feels fine when you test by just pushing on either rudder pedal, but put some pressure on both like it is when flying, and the tension in both cables makes them really grab. Hans did some very wild gyrations on his first flight due to that binding. The tension in his sphincter muscle probably put even more pressure on the rudder pedals, making it worse..... A small round file opened those slots right up and tapered them to match then cable angle. Not problems now.
