Subject: | 801 Scoop - Now in Canada |
Hi guys - here is the scoop as told to me by Sebastien just before my purchase
of?the 801.? The 801's larger parts were always assembled in Canada and then shipped
down to MO for kit sales purposes.? As the 750 caught fire in sales?they
needed room for this kit and?all of its parts.? So they moved the entire 801
program up to Canada around Oct of 2008.
? It is good they kept the 801, but the disadvantages for being in Canada does
affect US buyers. Shipping is more expensive, customs does delay some of the shipments
of parts, and it costs money on your cell phone if you want to talk with
them.? They have had some personnel changes up there so their experience with
the 801 is nowhere near the expertise of the folks in MO (ie - Roger).?
? If you want some personal experiences with Zenair in Canada and the 801 build
- I'd be glad to email you personally.? Beware before you buy!!!!!??

Thanks Dennis;
For me, that's bad news.---I had my heart set on that plane, but if t
he support is not there nor the cost if overly prohibitive, I may have to w
ait until someone else makes something like it or suck it up and just pay t
he price.

I was unaware of any of this when I purchased my 801 tail kit from Flight C
rafters, which is a southern U.S. Zenith distributor.- I've-had some-
problems with the quality of-a few parts in the tail kit but fortunately
I've received outstanding-support from-the folks in both-Missouri and
Canada.- Caleb at the-Missouri-facility has-made it clear that the
y-are still available-to answer any questions on the 801 even though al
l manufacture has gone to Canada.- However, If there are questions about
the quality of the parts in the kit, those-must be taken up with the-fo
lks in Canada.- - =0A=0AI'm in a position where I need a new elevator s
kin.- The-position of the holes were not drilled correctly.- Cleo in
Canada allayed my fears and gave me a work around that I am very confident
in.- Unfortunately I crimped the trailing edge moving it around!- Shipp
ing to Georgia for a skin would be ridiculous.- Fortunately-Zenair has
offered to-throw the-skin in with some-other parts-that-would be
going to the Eastman Georgia-facility-anyway.- I can pick them up the
re for the fraction of what it would have cost to have it shipped.- =0A
=0AThe relationship between the various distributors, Zenith in Missouri, a
nd Zenair Canada-was very confusing to-me at first.- Now that I've ha
d to make a few phone calls and resolve a few issues, it's not nearly as in
timidating.- I didn't-fully understand it when I bought the kit but I'm
not unhappy with the support I've been given.- In fact, each time I've c
alled-either Caleb in Missouri or Cleo in-Canada, I've always got the a
nswer I've needed.=0A=0AJake Crause=0Awww.homebuiltairplanes.com---

Subject: | Gascolator position for 701? |
I am starting to work on the fuel system and a bunch of FWF items now that I
have my EFIS/EMS in place.
This raises a few questions about the directions for the new FWF ( ring
mount ) system and the plans that I have ( 06/2006 ).
The manual for the new mount have photos of what looks like a gascolator
mounted on the firewall, passenger side.
It seems Zenith has moved a bunch of stuff around on the demonstrator
without a plans update.
Right now I am planning on positioning the gascolator aft of the main gear
like my plans.
Can anyone comment on it this will be a problem with the new ring mount?
Also, where have people placed the fuel flow sensor for their Dynons?
Thanks,

John: That is where I placed my gascolator with no problems. Unless
they have changed mounts since I ordered my firewall forward in Feb
2007, it should be ok. There probably is no problem mounting it on the
firewall either.
