The 801-drawings do not give any detail on part dimensions.- I would ne ed to reverse engineer them.- Not rocket science but more of an undertaki ng than if I had templates.=0A=0AI've had trouble with several parts since the start of this build.- Only with holes being drilled off-set from wher e they should be, never with actual damage to the part.- For instance, on the rudder spar, the lines of pre-drilled holes were several mm to one sid e all the way along the spar.- My elevator skin had holes drilled closer to the edge on one side than the other with edge distance less that was nee ded.- The company came up with an acceptable solution but I ended up crim ping the leading edge when handling it, so I'll buy another skin before mov ing forward.- Several parts were replaced early on by the good folks down at Flight Crafters in Florida.- I purchased my tail kit-through them a nd they dealt with Zeniar to replace the parts.- Since then I've talked d irectly with Zenair on several-occasions and they have been nothing but h elpful on the phone and email.- I realize the kit-production was moved from Zenith in-Missouri to Zenair in Canada recently and I'm chocking these early problems-up to growing pain s.=0A=0AOne thing I would like to stress is I'm not unhappy with the 801. - I understand that building your own airplane is an exercise in patience and reasoning.- We need to keep one eye in the AC43.13 and one eye on wh at-we're told on-this list-and by the company.- I don't expect ever ything to-go together perfectly-and if the company can come up with an acceptable and strong solution to a problem with a part they sent me, or a screw up I've made, I'm open to it.--Thanks again for the support guys, I appreciate it.----=0A=0AJake Crause=0APooler, Ga--- =0A=0A =0A=0A=0A________________________________=0AFrom: Joe Harrington <cicrn@tel us.net>=0ATo: zenith701801-list@matronics.com=0ASent: Fri, November 6, 2009 11:28:23 PM=0ASubject: Re: Zenith701801-List: 801 HS Rib Saga=0A=0A6061 T6 is pretty common. Often used when fabricating aluminum service truck bodie s, semi trailers, etc. Thickness (or lack thereof) may be a problem though. As a scratch builder, it is also easy for me to say, Get some material to re-fabricate parts, you will need it. I agree, it will be worthwhile to lea rn the skills to fabricate parts. Otherwise the project will take longer, w aiting for parts and will cost more. Subject: 701 wheels and brakes
I just replaced 6"-wheels and brakes from my 701 with 8" wheels to fit larger tires. A builder in a hanger near mine, who is building two planes, immediately bought my old wheels and brakes and asked me if I know of anyone else who has a set to sell. If anyone wants to sell their 6" wheels and brakes from a 701, pls email me, lgold@quantum-associates.com. Les

I can't help ya with that. When I built my 801 we had to drill all the h oles and create all slots so some of the panels could work on each side. I do remember that when I mated the inner and outer slats where they te lescope together I didn't have the proper edge distance so I made my win g pick up points different.
