Hello Randy,
=C2-
Sure I remember that only once in a fligh to the coast, when I made my pref
light in the morning for take off,=C2-I found a=C2-big drop of water in
the fuel sampler, I think was from condensation.
=C2-
I have found sometimes a little water and some debris in the chamois, from
the gas station or maybe from the jug, but then we wash=C2-and dry the ch
amois=C2-once we finish the fill up.
We were told always to do that (never leave the chamois dirty or with water
), but didnt know why until now that I read your post.=C2-=C2- Thank fo
r the explanation.=C2-
=C2-
Saludos

as stated below, a chamois,
=C2-
Main Entry: cham=C2=B7ois
Pronunciation: \=CB=88sha-m=C4=93, sense 1 also sham-=CB=88w=C3=A4\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural cham=C2=B7ois also cham=C2=B7oix \sense 1 =CB=88s
ha-m=C4=93(z) or sham-=CB=88w=C3=A4(z), senses 2 & 3 =CB=88sha-m=C4=93z\
Etymology: Middle French, from Late Latin camox
1 : a small goatlike bovid (Rupicapra rupicapra) of mountainous regions fro
m southern Europe to the Caucasus
2also cham=C2=B7my or sham=C2=B7my \=CB=88sha-m=C4=93\ : a soft pliant leat
her prepared from the skin of the chamois or from sheepskin
3 : a cotton fabric made in imitation of chamois leather
while lining a funnel, will filter out water and debris.=C2- When I was a
float pilot, we had to "jug" fuel down to the lake from our tank on the st
rip.=C2- We always ran the fuel through a chamois.
It's been a long time, but I recall being told that if water was filtered o
ut, it should be removed from the chamois quickly as it would slowly soak i
nto the chamois, wetting a spot which then provided a channel for water to
wick through thus defeating the water filtering ability of the chamois.
I never had any real water problem in my fuel so maybe others (Gary?)=C2-
could comment,=C2-agree, disagree, or clarify that this is something one
would watch while using a chamois.
I still have a chamois and the same old funnel in the hanger.=C2- Our air
port fueling operation is very clean, but if we have to drain a tank into j
ugs, it goes through the chamois when going back in.=C2- I keep the chamo
is rolled up and stored in a screw top jar (instant coffee type) to keep it
clean when not in use.

Randy, Las Vegas

Hello Kevin,
=C2-
Well,=C2- is used by pilots here forever...=C2- :-)=C2- a must for th
e AG pilots...=C2- This is the chamoise that is=C2-made from deer skin
(?), works like those new micromesh black funnels,=C2- make a test.
=C2-
In a funnel atach a chamoise=C2-loose=C2-inside=C2-so the gasoline wi
ll not spill,=C2- see how easy will pass trough. then test with=C2-a qu
art of the same=C2-gasoline and add a=C2-little amount of water and deb
ris...=C2-=C2-You can see how the water and debris will stay in the cha
mois side of the=C2-funnel, nothing on the fuel.
=C2-
Here we have a big old=C2-galvanized funnel with a chamois rag, can easy
hold about 4 galons of gas.=C2-=C2- In our aerodrome we dont have gas,
so we bring our own, all goes though the funnel before going to the tank...
=C2-
=C2-
For=C2-xcountries we take a little black one (about 1 or 2 quarts capacit
y) that I brought from a vacation trip (visited Aircraft Spruce in Corona :
-)=C2- but is slower and the fuel cans are heavy...=C2- :-)
