In case you have not seen the notices, Rotax has extender major overhaul time for the 912 to 2000-hours. You may need to make some checks and mods to get to 2000, depending on your engine serial number. If I read this right, if your ULS engine SN is below 5646560 or your crank case SN is below 27.811 (2006?) you will need a new crank case to go 2000Hrs. This is a bummer due to the ~$4000 price tag for a crank case. (see http://forums.matronics.com//files/tbo_extension_138.pdf <http://forums.matronics.com/files/tbo_extension_138.pdf> ). In addition, Rotax just come out with 4 new 912 manuals. You can download them from http://www.rotax-owner.com/manualsintro.htm. Les MMj02835530000[1].gif

    Subject: 701 Matco Wheel Recall
Page 15 of the Nov-Dec 2009 Zenair News says that old style Matco wheels can fail without warning. I am not sure when Zenith went to the new wheels. They show a wheel with the rim fractured around the bolt circle, looks scary. They do not say what the wheel was on or the weight of the airplane. To replace the wheels is about $208, plus shipping I would guess. Has anyone on this list seen this failure on a 701? (A few years ago Matco recalled the main gear axles, at least one axle did failure on a 701.) Chuck D. N701TX

Let me tell a first hand experience: - About--3 or 4 -years ago (?) I changed a broken axle to a old 701 STO L,- this was a Chez built kit, this kit-still had-the wings and heade r tank system. but new style main gear, cant remember the year built but I checked the-great workmanship...- Was bought used by this last owner. - The axle broke in a hard landing in kind of (cant remember the spelling) ro ugh (?) landing strip.- The axle just broke-at the reinfrocement.- - Because of the time it takes to ship parts from USA to here (shiping and cu stoms paperwork, etc) we were able to "lend" him our kit's axles we were no t needing at that moment yet, mean time the new ones ordered arrived.- They did arrived from Zenith and went though all Customs well in advance th at were needed. - I had the chance to compare the axles we had with the broken one, also with the-spare -ones recieved...- Sincerely the new style (we had and new ones)-had about the double of material compared with the old style.- S o I think Marco already made their homework, I trust the axles. - Never heard (or know about) Matco aluminum rims failure...- We are very h appy with our 701 (280 hrs of fun flying and counting) and with ZAC service of course. - Saludos Gary Gower Flying from Chapala, Mexico. --- On Wed, 12/16/09, Chuck Deiterich <cffd@pgrb.com> wrote: From: Chuck Deiterich <cffd@pgrb.com> Subject: Zenith701801-List: 701 Matco Wheel Recall Page 15 of the Nov-Dec 2009 Zenair News says that old style Matco wheels ca n fail without warning.- I am not sure when Zenith went to the new wheels .- They show a wheel with the rim-fractured around the bolt circle, loo ks scary.- They do not say what the wheel was on or the weight of-the a irplane.- To replace the wheels is about $208, plus shipping I would gues s. - Has anyone on this list seen this failure on a 701? - (A few years ago Matco recalled the main gear axles, at least one axle did failure on a 701.) - Chuck D.
